CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX JAX

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX JAXLike tug-o-war, my mind and body pull against one another. It’s like my thoughts are overlapping, and I remember half of one idea and the other half of another. I want to sleep, but Priya toys with my mind. Anxiety wraps around me with uncertainty. Dark indigo shadows filter through the window as I sit up in bed. I can’t tell if it’s night or early morning and I don’t want to know. My head sags, and I yawn before getting out of bed to check my messages. The holographic screen pops up above my desk and cycles through my notifications—not a one from Dr. Jenkins, only a few from Deice and Sylvia. I play the recordings. Hey man, just seeing if you’re dead or being dramatically quiet. Let me know. Deice’s voice is loud and annoying as if he expected me to be hungover.
