Hints Of The Past

828 Words
The days following the kiss between Logan and Leah were filled with an uneasy silence that neither of them knew how to break. Logan tried to keep his distance, focusing on pack matters, but it was impossible to ignore her—impossible to pretend that what had happened didn’t matter. Every time she walked into a room, every time she spoke, Logan found himself drawn to her all over again, like a moth to a flame. But Leah, too, seemed changed. Her quiet moments grew more frequent, her fingers often brushing the necklace she wore, as if the very act of touching it brought her closer to some hidden truth she wasn’t ready to face. Logan watched her one evening, his thoughts heavy as they walked together toward the edge of the pack’s territory. The scent of the woods around them was thick with the promise of rain, the dark sky mirroring the uncertainty between them. "Do you feel it too?" Leah’s voice was soft, barely audible above the whispering wind. Logan glanced at her. Her face was illuminated by the faint glow of the setting sun, but there was a shadow in her eyes—a shadow that he knew all too well. "Feel what?" "The pull," she replied, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "Between us. It’s different now. Stronger." Logan’s chest tightened. Stronger. That was an understatement. It felt like the ground beneath his feet was crumbling with every step he took toward her. He had to resist. He knew he had to. Before he could answer, the unmistakable sound of footsteps cracked through the quiet air, followed by the sound of a low growl. Both Logan and Leah turned in unison, their senses heightened. A figure emerged from the shadows—tall, broad-shouldered, and unmistakably familiar. Damon. Logan’s teeth clenched. His eyes narrowed. Damon Blackwood. The Alpha of Leah’s former pack. The one who had shattered her heart. The one who had rejected her. And now, here he was, standing before them, as if he had every right to be in their territory. "Didn’t expect to find you here," Damon said, his voice smooth, almost mocking, as he locked eyes with Leah. "Especially not with him." Leah’s breath hitched. Logan could see the flicker of fear, the flash of pain in her eyes. But it was brief, quickly replaced by a mask of defiance. "You have no right to be here," Leah said, her voice steady, though there was an edge to it. "You left me once. I won’t let you do it again." Damon chuckled, taking a slow step forward. "You don’t understand, Leah. I never left you. I was protecting you. You were never meant to be an Omega." Logan’s instincts flared. He stepped forward, positioning himself between Leah and Damon, his body tense with anger. "You’re not welcome here, Damon," Logan growled, his tone dark with authority. "You’ve done enough damage." Damon looked at Logan with a smirk, his eyes flicking briefly to Leah before returning to the Alpha who stood in his path. "You think you can protect her from her past? From me? You’re only delaying the inevitable." Leah’s hand shot out, grasping Logan’s arm. "Don’t," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "He’s just trying to provoke you." But Logan’s gaze remained fixed on Damon. The years of rivalry, the rejection Leah had faced, all of it boiled to the surface. "You’re wrong," Logan said, his voice low but full of certainty. "She’s not yours anymore. And neither is she anyone’s to control. Leah has a future, one that she chooses." Damon’s smirk faded, replaced by a look of cold amusement. "We’ll see about that." With a final glance at Leah, he turned on his heel, disappearing into the forest with the same eerie quiet he had arrived with. The moment he was gone, the tension between Logan and Leah grew palpable. Logan turned to Leah, his anger still simmering. "He won’t stop, Leah. He’s dangerous." Leah shook her head, her expression conflicted. "I don’t know what to believe anymore, Logan. But I can’t keep running from the truth." "Then let’s face it together," Logan said, his voice softening. He reached out, his hand brushing against hers, the warmth of his touch grounding them both in the moment. "Whatever it is, whatever’s buried in your past, I won’t let it tear us apart." Leah met his gaze, her heart racing. "But what if it’s already too late?" Logan’s grip tightened around her hand. "We don’t know that yet." As they stood there, the winds picking up around them, the sense of impending danger hung thick in the air. Damon’s words echoed in Logan’s mind—you’re only delaying the inevitable. But Logan refused to believe that. Whatever Damon had planned, he wouldn’t let it pull Leah back into the darkness. They had a chance to carve their own path. And Logan would protect it, no matter what it took.
