Leah couldnât shake the feeling that something had changed.
Loganâs interest in her pendant left her unsettled. For years, she had worn it without question, a simple piece of jewelry that had no meaning beyond the fact that it was hers. But now? The way Logan had looked at itâas if it meant something to himâmade her stomach twist.
She wasnât sure she wanted to know why.
Still, curiosity gnawed at her.
That night, she found herself sitting on her bed, rolling the pendant between her fingers. It was small, a simple silver disk with unfamiliar markings etched into the surface. She had traced them so many times that she could do it in her sleep.
But tonight, they felt... different.
A knock at her door made her jump.
She quickly tucked the pendant beneath her shirt. âCome in.â
The door opened, and Cassian stepped inside.
âYou look like youâve seen a ghost,â he said, raising an eyebrow.
Leah forced a smirk. âIf I had, itâd probably be more pleasant than this place.â
Cassian chuckled, but his expression sobered quickly. âI came to warn you.â
Her stomach clenched. âWarn me?â
He hesitated, as if unsure how much to say. âLoganâs been asking around about you.â
Leahâs breath hitched. âWhat?â
Cassian nodded. âNot just the usual curiosity. Heâs diggingâhard. Heâs questioned the elders, the warriors, even the pack archives.â
Her heart pounded. âWhy would he do that?â
Cassian crossed his arms. âThatâs what Iâm trying to figure out.â
Leah swallowed. âMaybe heâs justââ
âNo,â Cassian cut in. âThis isnât random, Leah. Heâs searching for something. Something about you.â
A chill ran down her spine.
She wanted to believe it was nothing. That Loganâs interest in her past was just another way for him to mess with her.
But deep down, she knew better.
There was something he knewâor suspectedâthat she didnât.
And that scared her more than anything.

The Next Day
Leah had planned to stay far away from Logan, but fate had other ideas.
She was in the training grounds, practicing with a few of the younger pack members, when a voice cut through the air.
âLeah.â
Every muscle in her body went rigid.
She turned slowly to find Logan watching her from the edge of the field, arms crossed, his silver eyes unreadable.
The other wolves stilled, their gazes darting between them.
No one disobeyed the Alpha.
Leah forced herself to stand tall. âYes, Alpha?â
Logan motioned for her to follow. âWith me.â
She hesitated.
Cassianâs warning echoed in her head.
But she didnât have a choice.
With a nod, she wiped the sweat from her brow and fell into step beside Logan as he led her toward the woods.
They walked in silence, the tension between them thick enough to cut with a blade. The further they got from the training grounds, the more uneasy she felt.
Finally, Logan stopped near a secluded clearing.
Leah folded her arms. âWhat is this about?â
Logan turned to face her fully, his expression unreadable.
âTell me everything you know about that pendant.â
Leah stiffened.
âI already told you. Iâve had it since I was a baby.â
Loganâs jaw tightened. âAnd you never questioned where it came from?â
Her hands clenched into fists. âOf course I did. But there were no answers.â
Logan exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. âThis isnât a coincidence.â
Leahâs pulse pounded. âWhat do you mean?â
He hesitated for a long moment before finally meeting her gaze.
âThat symbol,â he said slowly, âbelongs to an ancient bloodline. A bloodline that was supposed to be extinct.â
Leahâs breath caught in her throat.
The world seemed to tilt around her.
âWhat?â
Loganâs silver eyes locked onto hers.
âI need to know, Leah. Who are you?â
