A Warning From Logan

Got it! I’ll make Chapter Six just as long and intense as Chapter Five. I’ll focus on deepening the tension between Leah and Logan while building up the mystery around her past and her place in the pack. Stay tuned! --- Chapter Six – The First Test Leah stood frozen in the meeting hall, the weight of Logan’s words pressing down on her. "You’ll stay here. Learn our ways. Earn your place." Earn your place. She had never been given the chance to earn anything before. In her old pack, she had simply been discarded. Tossed aside. Rejected. Now, in the most powerful pack she had ever known, she was being told she had a chance. But what if she failed? The low murmur of the gathered wolves pulled her out of her thoughts. Their expressions ranged from curiosity to outright hostility. None of them seemed pleased with Logan’s decision to let her stay. Especially the broad-shouldered man who had questioned her earlier. He stepped forward, arms still crossed over his chest. "With all due respect, Alpha, we don’t take in outsiders. And we sure as hell don’t train weaklings." A muscle in Logan’s jaw twitched. "I don’t recall asking your opinion, Garrett." Garrett. Leah committed the name to memory. He had the air of a high-ranking wolf—one of Logan’s top warriors, most likely. Garrett’s expression darkened, but he didn’t argue. Not with Logan. Instead, his sharp gaze flicked to Leah, assessing her like she was a problem that needed solving. "If she wants to stay, she should prove herself." Leah stiffened. "Prove myself how?" Garrett smirked. "We train every morning at dawn. If you want to be part of this pack, you fight like the rest of us." A pit formed in Leah’s stomach. She wasn’t weak. She had learned how to survive. But fighting? She had never been given the chance to train properly, not as an Omega. She knew how to run. How to take a hit and keep going. But against warriors like these? Logan remained silent, his gray eyes unreadable as he watched her. Leah lifted her chin, forcing herself to hold Garrett’s gaze. "Fine." A few murmurs rippled through the crowd. Some amused. Some surprised. Garrett tilted his head, a slow grin spreading across his face. "I’ll be waiting, then." Without another word, he turned and strode out of the hall. Leah exhaled, feeling her stomach churn. What the hell did I just agree to The meeting ended shortly after, and Leah found herself alone in the dimly lit hallway, her mind racing. A fight. A real fight. Would they expect her to win? Or were they just waiting to see how badly she failed? Before she could think too much, heavy footsteps echoed behind her. She turned to see Logan approaching. His face was unreadable as he stopped in front of her. "You didn’t have to accept." Leah let out a short laugh. "Oh, so now you’re giving me choices?" Logan’s jaw tightened. "This pack isn’t kind to the weak, Leah." Leah. It was the first time he had ever said her name. For some reason, it made her chest tighten. She shook the thought away. "I know that," she said. "And I’m not weak." Logan studied her for a long moment. Then, to her surprise, he smirked. "We’ll see about that." Then, just as quickly as he had appeared, he was gone. Leah exhaled slowly. Tomorrow would be her first real test. And she had no idea if she was ready. --- Dawn Comes Too Soon Leah barely slept. By the time the sun started to rise, she was already awake, her body tense with nerves. She dressed quickly, pulling on the training gear left for her—a simple sleeveless tunic and fitted leggings. When she stepped outside, the cold morning air hit her like a slap. The training grounds were larger than she expected, a wide-open space surrounded by dense forest. Warriors were already gathered, stretching, warming up, preparing for the brutal exercises ahead. And at the center of it all stood Garrett. He spotted her immediately and grinned. "Glad you showed up. I was worried you’d run off." Leah clenched her jaw. "I don’t run." Garrett chuckled. "We’ll see." Logan was there too, standing at the edge of the clearing with his arms crossed. He said nothing, but Leah could feel his gaze on her. Watching. Testing. Waiting for her to fail. Garrett rolled his shoulders, cracking his neck. "Rules are simple. First one to yield loses. Try not to embarrass yourself." Leah swallowed hard, her pulse pounding. This was it. She took a slow breath, forcing herself to focus. Don’t think. Just fight. Garrett moved first. Leah barely had time to react before he lunged, his speed terrifying. She dodged—barely—his fist grazing her shoulder. The force alone was enough to knock her off balance. Pain shot through her arm, but she gritted her teeth and steadied herself. Garrett smirked. "Too slow." He struck again. This time, Leah didn’t dodge fast enough. His fist slammed into her ribs, and the breath whooshed out of her lungs. She stumbled, hitting the ground hard. Laughter rippled through the crowd. Leah gasped for air, her vision swimming. Get up. She pushed herself onto her hands and knees, coughing. Garrett stepped closer, tilting his head. "That all you got?" Rage flared in Leah’s chest. She wasn’t going to lose. Not like this. With a sharp inhale, she forced herself to her feet. Garrett raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Guess you’re tougher than you look." Leah wiped blood from her lip. "You talk too much." Garrett’s smirk widened. "Then shut me up." Leah didn’t think. She moved. She faked left, then pivoted sharply, throwing all her weight into a punch aimed at his side. Garrett caught it. His grip was like iron around her wrist. Damn it. But Leah wasn’t done. Instead of pulling away, she dropped—using her own momentum to swing her legs around. She kicked out hard, sweeping his legs from under him. Garrett hit the ground with a heavy thud. The crowd went silent. For a brief, glorious moment, Leah couldn’t believe it. Then, just as quickly, Garrett laughed. He sat up, rubbing his jaw. "Not bad, Omega." Leah didn’t let her guard down. Garrett got to his feet, shaking his head. "Guess you’re not completely useless." Logan finally stepped forward, his face unreadable. "Enough." Garrett nodded, stepping back. Leah’s breath was ragged, her body aching. But she had done it. She had proved something today. Not just to them—but to herself. Logan met her gaze. And for the first time, there was something like approval in his eyes.
