MAYA’S POV
My heart stopped.
On the small screen, the image was grainy but unmistakable. It was Jalen’s bedroom from months ago. The lighting was dim, but clear enough to catch the sweat on Jalen’s back as he pounded into me. My own face was thrown back against the pillows, eyes squeezed shut, my mouth open as I screamed from pleasure.
“Jalen… please, Jalen, faster.” I gripped the bedsheet.
I felt a wave of nausea so violent I had to catch the edge of the dresser to keep from collapsing. I looked like a stranger to myself. The fact that he had been f*****g Tessa too made me want to throw up all the drinks I’d had at the party. My heart ached from the betrayal; you never really move on, and this wound was barely a week old.
I slammed my thumb down to pause it, but the phone vibrated in my hand before I could exit the app. The unknown number was calling, and I contemplated picking it up. At this point, I couldn't tell who was out to get me. So far, I had three enemies: Jalen, Tessa, and Jane—and that was aside from my parents.
I answered with a trembling hand.
"Hello?" I tried to sound confident and unbothered.
"Hello, Maya," Jalen’s voice came through the phone. "I hope you liked your gift. A little something I’m planning to play at your wedding with my brother. A tribute to the bride, you could say. You do not need to thank me."
My heart stuttered. Even if we were both caught in the act of premarital s*x, the consequences would fall heavily on me. He was a man; he could get away with practically anything. I did not have that luxury.
"You can't do that," I whispered, my voice rising as panic took hold. "Jalen, that’s a breach of privacy. You have no right—that was private! We were engaged!"
“But not married. Also, I could frame you and say it was recent—from before your marriage with Rafe. Who knows? I mean, you are good at being a f*****g slut. You were probably f*****g him before we broke up. All you do is make me look like the bad guy. Miss Goody Two-Shoes.”
“Bastard!”
He let out a dark chuckle that made my skin crawl.
"I am the Alpha King, Maya. I can do anything I want. Who is going to stop me? The elders? They already think you’re a curse and should be banished. If I play this, they won't just think it—they’ll see exactly what kind of charity case Rafe is picking up. You’ll be shamed out of the pack before the first dance is over."
He paused, and I could hear the clink of a glass on his end.
“Oh, and that little motorcycle club he has will not save your ass. I already heard he killed a man because of you.” He drank from his glass. “Rafe is a little boy, no matter how hard he tries to prove he is a man. Forever my baby brother. He thinks with his d**k and cannot hold back his emotions when he loves a woman.”
My body shook violently as I wondered what to do.
"Tell me," he said in a cold tone. "Is Rafe’s d**k actually better than mine? I find that hard to believe, considering the way you were screaming my name in that video. You sounded pretty satisfied to me. You know, if you still want it, I could give it to you without Rafe knowing. It’s been hungry for a while.”
I felt sick listening to the man I had loved, wondering how the hell I even fell for this psycho.
"You are a psycho," I spat, tears of rage finally stinging my eyes. "You filmed us? You actually set up a camera and recorded us having s*x? Why would you even have that?" I huffed. “The elders of this pack must be retarded to have elected someone like you as the Alpha. A mental institution would be the best place for you, not a f*****g throne!”
He chuckled again.
“Goddess, I cannot get over watching that video. I see it almost every f*****g day. How your pink little p***y expanded to take my length. And for your information, I filmed it because I loved you," he said, and for a second, he actually sounded like he believed his own lie.
"I wanted to be able to watch you whenever I was away. Tessa... she was a mistake, Maya. Just lust. Everything could have been perfect if you had just been a good wife and forgiven me. It never would have happened again after our wedding night. I’ve already discarded her, but you had to go and cause a scene. You had to crawl into Rafe’s hands just to spite me. Now, that isn't how a true Luna should be."
The arrogance in his voice was suffocating. He truly thought the world revolved around his whims—that I was just a piece of property that had misplaced itself. I looked at the paused image on the screen, at the girl begging for a man who never deserved her, and an unusual strength settled in my chest.
"You want to know why I was screaming like that, Jalen?" I asked, trying to steady my voice.
"Enlighten me."
"It was a fake moan," I said, a cruel smile touching my lips despite the fear. "Every bit of it. I was bored, Jalen. I was just making noise so you’d hurry up and finish. If you want to play that at the wedding, go ahead. Everyone will just see how hard I had to work to make you feel like a man."
The silence at the other end was absolute for a moment before he let out a slow clap.
“Fine then. We shall see what Rafe thinks when he sees it at the wedding. I will do well to play it.”
Before I could speak again, he ended the call.
