First Day (Jay's POV)

623 Words
Waking up this morning I was nervous to start my first day of teaching a class. I had a grade eleven class and I had been told the last teacher had made them behind. I got dressed into a causal grey suit and drove to school. I was fresh out of teachers school and the girls at this school knew it. They couldn’t keep their eyes off me, which was kind of creepy. I got into my class room and went through the roll. A few minutes into the lesson someone wearing a black hoodie walked in. I was definitely curious about this student.  “And you are?” I asked. The student sat down in a chair right at the back.  “Cody” she said in a quiet voice. I tried to make Cody laugh but only got a slight smirk. I guess it’ll take a lot of work with her. I taught the class and it went well but I couldn’t help but notice how sad Cody looked. It was hard to see her face though because she wouldn’t pull her hood down. Finally the bell went and i watched everyone leave. Cody caught my attention, she was hurrying like she had to be somewhere.  “Hey, Cody?” I asked hoping she would come over, which she did.  “Yes” she said In a nervous voice while sounding annoyed.  “After today keep the hood down” I said smiling at her hoping to not scare her. She seemed like she was about to have a panic attack. I tried to look into Cody’s eyes but she avoided eye contact.  “Right” she said quickly and turned almost running out of the room. I then got up and watched her rush down the hall. I hoped she was ok but she really didn’t seem it.  After doing some lesson planning I was walking to the staff room when I noticed a bunch of students in the hall watching what looked like some kind of disagreement. I started heading their way but before I got there the students must have sorted it out. My next lesson went by fast and before I knew it my day had ended.  I sat in the staff room on my laptop when another teacher walked in. The guy seemed really pissed off about something.  “How was your day?” I asked trying to check in.  “Ugh it was s**t, I have the student who no matter what I do never brings her shorts to school for PE” he said almost yelling. “Oh that must suck, maybe the girl doesn’t fell comfortable wearing shorts?” I asked him.  “This girl is the best looking in the grade she must be comfortable, you met Cody?” The coach asked me. “Think she might be in my maths class” I said pretending to not be sure.  “Well the girl won’t wear shorts or a shirt in my class, wish you better luck with the kid” he then walked out and left me with my thoughts again.  I started thinking deeply about Cody. I wondered what she was hiding under the clothes that made her refuse to wear shorts or a shirt. I headed home and took the files for each child I was teaching. When I got home I went through them and found Cody’s folder. I opened her folder and saw there had been many incident reports made. I didn’t have access to them but i was definitely going to find out more about Cody.
