Chapter 27

2006 Words
“I know it is you…” Aiden said with painful look on his face. Iris was stunned. She forgot how to breathe for a moment. It couldn’t be happening. She knew it was difficult to pretend to be someone else around him knowing he has practically seen her grow up but she tried her best then what gave away? Aiden studied her perplexed look and wondered if he was sure? Yes he knows he couldn’t be wrong. He had seen a mark similar to Iris’ on her nape. He even saw scars on her stomach that night when she crashed at his place getting wasted. That couldn’t be a coincidence but what bothered him was why she wasn’t behaving like his Iris. Has she really lost her memory? He can’t think of any other reason than this except one which he had been denying… Maybe she has nothing to do with me after that awful incident. Iris looked at his face and laughed. Now he has the audacity to look hurt? “Did you love her?” She asked casually. It fooled Aiden for believing that maybe… he could be mistaken. “More than my life…” He stared blankly at the duvet cover finding heaven in there. ‘Maybe he was letting his hope run all over him.’ Iris felt bitter hearing his answer. ‘That’s why you shot her?’ she wanted to ask but couldn’t and kept her gaze fixed at him. Hot tears formed at the corners of her eyes as she realized that she loathed him now. He dared kill her; his betrayal made her give up on the will to live or else she could have fought them even in that condition. She knew she was strong enough to have guilt trapped Derek and make him realize his mistake. Aiden just put a final nail on her coffin by shooting at her. “What about her then? Did she not love you? I am curious.” She turned to face him fully and crossed her legs in the process. Her softened face and calm look made Aiden gloomy. “Maybe some other time…” he dismissed her curiosity while continuing with the compression. If only she could let her heart pour out right now because she was feeling burdened with all the unspoken feelings. Just as she thought she couldn’t handle it; the door opened and closed. There was a maid who looked hesitant. “Miss, Master has forgotten his file at home and his secretary requested if you c-could bring it? She said he was in a real bad mood.” The maid was baffled. She doesn’t want to get fired because it was like she was asking her madam to do some chorus. “O-Okay. I will.” she smiled at the maid who relaxed and rushed out as soon as she could. Iris realized she wasn’t supposed to know where he worked so turned to look at Aiden. “Can you send me his address so I can deliver the file?” Aiden looked suspicious. “He isn't at the office that I am sure of. I will do it anyways.” He got up to leave when she stopped him. “Where is he then?” she needed to know knowing well she has no time left to enter the business world. “At Evelyn’s probably giving what she deserved.” He mumbled to himself but Iris heard it. Her heart sunk to her stomach. She knew what that meant. It was fine that she gets what she deserved but what if it turns out to be more? She almost jumped out of the bed and ran downstairs. The maid passed her a file which she snatched in the process making her way to the car and rev up the engine. The servants and even the bodyguard were astonished by her behavior. Some of them even thought to follow and one actually did. What if she ended up getting into some trouble then their boss will fire all of them due to their inability to look upon her. Iris quickly called Derek’s secretary and asked her to send someone to collect the file from the outside and hung up hoping she wouldn’t be late. *** Derek was walking slowly deliberately towards Evelyn who was shaking with fear. His corner of lips rose up as he enjoyed her state. So weak and pathetic! She was brave enough to kill her own sister and plan in her parents’ murder but now she looked like a scared kitten sitting beside the wall scared as hell. He hasn’t even done anything but punched her and maybe kicked her? That wasn’t a big deal now, was it when she was the one who made him do these to her own sister. He remembered how content she looked at that time when he could feel his heart pierced. If he rightly recalls; it was just her who was enjoying every bit of that unfortunate night but today… It was his turn. “Derek no! I am your g-girlfriend.” She was aware with his expression. “What gave you that expression Eve? Have I ever agreed upon it?” His cold voice made her shiver. Her face fell at the fact he threw on her face. He was right! He never said it and never behaved like one. “Do you ever feel disgusted with yourself Eve? All you know is targeting someone or the other. I wonder why?” He asked casually as he reached in front of her. “I swear she is lying Derek. I didn’t do anything to her. That b***h is ly—” She wasn’t able to complete her sentence. Derek squatted to level himself to her and tugged at her hair making her head roll back. She winced in pain as an evil smile plastered on his face. “When will you learn Eve?” He smiled at her shaking his head. Her widened and scared eyes glanced at him hoping he would let her go. “You’ve got nothing to say about my woman when all that you do is whoring around. Don’t think I don’t have a f*****g idea about your fantasies with Aiden. As if that wasn’t enough. You even hooked up with strangers not even two weeks ago.” He sneered at her while gripped her mouth sinking his nails in her cheeks. Tears streamed down her face. “You hated Iris since long back. Why? You manipulated me all these time and it was you who made me suffer!” He pulled out a knife and slowly inched it closer to her cheeks. He watched keenly as the tip sunk into the skin and was pulled down leaving an open skin with slight blood oozing behind as a trail. Evelyn’s eyes shut as she cried. She tried to push him away but he was fast. He held her hands still in his one palm. There was no hesitation on his face. “Do you know what you get for playing with the fire?” He asked not even bothering for her answer. “This…” and with that he pulled his hand back ready to stab her like she did to his Iris. “STOP!” that voice was enough to have freeze him. He turned around and saw shocked look of Sunny. Now with the memories still fresh in his mind; it ached badly. Even though he feels she is different but something about her felt just the same. It was hard to point it out. “Please Derek… Don’t!” Iris could see the insane satiate look on his face which changed to… guilt? She doesn’t know as she wasn’t an expert with people’s feeling. She can’t let this happen. Her eyes landed on Evelyn who was unrecognizable with vulnerability. Her clothes were torn and her face wounded. She was bent in pain and tears streamed down her face. Iris wanted her to get what she deserved but she still couldn’t see her killed by none other than Derek. She would never let him become a monster. She just wouldn’t! “Why?” Derek found it unbelievable. Was this girl even for real? He was getting rid of the real monster here but she is asking him to stop. He saw how her face changed to something that he couldn’t decipher. Her eyes were pleading at him. “I don’t want you to do this… Please let me help you.” Iris said as she paced to him. She was close enough to him as she sat on the floor raising her hand to pull away the knife from him. Derek was mesmerized by her. So innocent, so pure just like his Iris. She could forgive anyone no matter how cruel that person was to her and now… she doesn’t even know she was asking to help a devil. It was overwhelming to him. No woman had tried to help him from slipping to his dark side ever before. It wasn’t like he allowed any woman to get closer because his world was revolving around his baby sister. She could sometimes read him like a book and only because of her, he tried to stay sane. He stared as Iris was able to pull away the knife from his hold but the next thing made her feelings bobbled. Derek stared at the beauty in front of him while he pulled her close to him. His hand sneaked around her waist as his other hand went around her nape. He pulled her closer and claimed her lips. Those soft pink lips tasted sweet. It f****d his senses. He kissed her with passion as he felt her stiffen in his hold. He didn’t pull back and kept ravishing her taste. He had dreamt of kissing Iris in this way many times before and now when he could see himself kissing her; she tasted far better than he had imagined. Those lips were as alluring as his baby sister’s and for once he could see his desire taking its height. Evelyn on the other hand pinched herself; it must be a dream. A bad dream. She pinched her twice and it was evident that she was witnessing something real. It was like she solved a puzzle and the missing puzzle was Iris.  Now when she thinks of it, it was her all these times. It was Iris that he loved. No doubt why he was so protective about her and caring; he never allowed a woman to enter his heart because it was her all those years who captured it. His softened gaze and voice, his loving personality when she was around and his playfulness even when she used to kick him proved he was tamed by her long back. How blind she was not to have noticed it. Derek pulled away to let her breathe as a stupid grin was set on his handsome face. Iris was in a head-space right now not believing a tad bit of it. Was she just kissed by her own brother? Her lips burnt with the hot kiss that made her weak at the knees and as if Derek was well aware of his effect on her; he held her as a support still not able to erase his ecstasy. “You taste exquisite baby. Give me chance, will you?” He asked dangerously close to her ear sending goosebumps.
