Just then they pulled up to the hotel. Without responding to Ian, Danny got out of the car and took the claim ticket from the valet. On the way to the hotel room, neither man said a word. Tillie had left them a note saying that she and Charlotte had gone to Santa Barbara to visit some friends. They would be spending the night there and return tomorrow.
Ian went to the bar and poured himself a glass of wine. “Can I get you something to drink?” he asked Danny.
“I thought you said you shouldn’t drink,” Danny said, not wanting a repeat of the previous night.
“I’m not going to get drunk, I promise. I’m just having one glass of wine to try and calm my nerves,” Ian responded, feeling guilty once again over his actions.
