AVERY’s POV
He stood there staring at me like he was daft. He is the last person I expected to see in my house, especially not at a time like this! I looked tattered and injured. I hated the fact my son had to see all that. I moved close to him and yanked Logan away from him.
“I ask again, what are you doing in my house?!”
I exclaimed angrily.
“Mummy, why are you bleeding? Is something wrong with you?”
Logan asked but I quickly covered his mouth with my hands. My principal, Mr Scofield stood there staring at me with his eyes wide open. He looked like if he had the opportunity he would devour me right in front of my son. What did he want? I told him I was not going to tell anybody about what happened at his party so why was he in my house in the middle of the night? This is so crazy, and the fact I was alone. Heaven knows where Camila went!
“I came to apologize to you, Avery. I guess I wronged you. I should never have done that to you earlier. I am sorry about that. Please, forgive me, huh? I can go down on my knees for you if you want”
“I do not want that, sir, please. It's been over 6 months now. told you I had forgotten all about that. That fact you are in my house this late poses a threat to me and my son”
I held Logan‘s hand while he kept looking at the bruises on my legs. Logan is way too smart for his age. Even his mother can not fool him at times. He is too smart for a kid his age.
“So, are you saying you have forgiven me? Are you serious? Then can we move forward?”
“What do you mean by that? Move forward in what way, Mr Scofield?”
“You know, right? My proposal. I spoke to Logan here and he said he wants a father, and—”
“Hold on!”
I shut him up and then went down on one knee. Logan has never complained about wanting a father ever since Shawn left because I have always tried to fill up that void so what was Scofield saying? I thought carefully to myself and I know how big of a liar Scofield is.
“Logan, did you say that? Why?”
Logan looked at Scofield then he turned back to me and blinked his eyes thrice which means Scofield was lying. Logan and I have always had that eye signal thing to alert one another whenever we were lying and it has really helped.
“Well, I just want a father, Mum. Is it too much to ask?”
He said that then blinked thrice again. I had to keep myself from laughing but it was hard. I covered my mouth with my hands and let out a little giggle then I stood up from the ground.
“Sir, please go back to your house. I will carefully talk to my son, and I will make a decision, sir. It is late please take your leave”
I pointed to the door for him and then he smirked and stared at me.
“Avery, Avery, Avery. You must think you are such a hot shot, right? Like a big deal, huh? But look around you, I am the only man still disturbing you. Do you know why? Because no man wants a used product! I am still available for now, but once I get someone else then you will remain a single mother forever!”
Tears were beginning to form in my eyes but I was holding myself so much! I had to control myself, of course, I wouldn't let him see me cry. Logan ran to Scofield and bit one of his fingers. Scofield screamed but before he could react Camila walked into the house and screamed at him.
I was too weak to move a muscle or try to fight back but I was glad that Camila came at the right time.
“Do not dare lay your hands on him! Are you not ashamed of yourself?! An old man like you trying to beat up a child! You could be arrested for being here this late, I hope you know that, right?”
“Listen to me—”
“No, you listen to me!”
Camila said back loudly at him as she walked closely and held my hands. She pulled Logan closer to herself and she looked at Scofield in his eyes. She wore a black long dress and she let her hair down. Her eyes pierced with rage, and her hands shivering with anger. She has a voice that would make even the strongest of men shiver and it worked even on Scofield. He stood there looking lost and sweating profusely. He brought out a piece of clothing from the pocket of his shirt and wiped the sweat off his face and hands.
“Leave this house this minute! I am not your employee so do not expect any form of respect from me!”
“Avery, are you letting this friend of yours insult me? Do you know you can lose your job for this? Do you want to test my wrath?”
“Your wrath means nothing to Avery! And if you ever try to play games with her job then watch how I will spill your dirty little secret to the students in your school Mr Principal!”
I was not in the best mood to laugh, but I loved how Camila spoke to him confidently. He was not sure how he was supposed to get out because he was obviously frightened. Camila has that effect on people, especially men like Scofield.
“This is not over, Avery. And as for you, I will get you. I promise to get back to you for disrespecting me like this. If you think I will let you go scot-free then you must be mistaken”
“I expect you to react first, then we will also do that. But be sure Avery will not also keep quiet! Not in your wildest dreams!”
