Coming back to Aria's life after so many years has left me with a range of feelings I cannot even start to sort out. Seeing her and experiencing the surge of memories—but more importantly, meeting Sofia has turned everything upside down. She is our little girl, not just any small child. Every year I never knew she existed. I stood outside the little apartment complex leaning against my car and silently watched the street.
I am used to being under control. I have created an empire on that very principle. However, this is different. This reminds me of uneven ground. And for the first time in a very long time, I have no idea what will transpire next. Not when Aria's hard-eyed, mistrustful stare at me reflects so much suffering.
