Chapter 5 - Freed

I shut my mouth and did not speak anything. I trained my gaze on the ground. I am tired and hungry and I don’t know if they have plan on releasing me. Why am I even here? Are they going to label me as rogue and add to the next hunting season? Can’t they tell I am not one of them? Because of the frustration, I choose silence instead. The Alpha in front of me is also doing the same thing. He’s been gazing at me for more than a minute now and I don’t know what’s running in his mind. Is he plotting something? “Don’t worry, I’ll release you soon after I give you instructions.” He finally broke the silence. His intonation is filled with care or my hearing is just playing tricks on me. Why would an Alpha sounds caring for someone like me? I must be crazy. Where is the angry Alpha ran off? He was in rage earlier and now suddenly he cares? “What is it?” I timidly asked. I don’t have the strength to argue with him. It’s best to just go with the flow for the mean time. “Continue your studies. After you graduated, I’ll employ you in the Capital to make your education useful. And lastly, don’t let any man get near you.” He instructed like he knew me even though he did not. It makes sense with his first two instructions, but the last one? It doesn’t make a sense. Why would he not allow me to meet the opposite s*x? It’s none of his goddamn business, but instead of asking why, I just nodded to finish this dilemma. “I will.” I answered shortly. The Alpha sighed and he stood up and came closer to me. I went rigid and my heart is hammering loudly. I’m scared, who wouldn’t be? He cut off the rope tying my wrist and he went to a cabinet and pulled out a medical box. Is he going to treat my wound? How can he do that? He’s an Alpha! “I-I’ll treat myself.” I volunteered and he did not argue with it. He opened the box and I saw the familiar tools there, such as cotton, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and gauges. I opened the Hydrogen Peroxide and put an amount full drops. It stings but bearable. I put some Povidone-Iodine and put a clean gauge to cover the scratches. It was fast because I am used to dressing wounds. I am studying veterinary anyway. I look in the Alpha’s direction but never meeting his eyes. “Can I go now?” I asked and gulped. I don’t know how long I have been here, but I know Hillary is worried. “You can. My driver will send you to your house.” He responded but I immediately shook my head. “I am not from here, Alpha. I’ll just call my friend to meet her up.” I responded. Maybe he was thinking that I am just living in the area.  Our village is too far from here that even train will take hours to reach. “Okay. You can leave now.” He leaned on his seat and put his fingers under his sturdy jaws. I bowed before I went out. There was a man waiting for me and I guess he’s the one who will send me back. “This is your cellphone, miss.” The guy handed my cellphone over. I am glad that I did not lost it! But as soon as I got the phone, I saw how many missed calls and text messages I received from Hillary and Nix. I immediately opened the lock code and called Hillary. “Oh my god! Is this you?!” Hillary’s voice is somehow screaming. “I’m sorry Hillary, something came up and I have to go somewhere. I am going back now, where are you?” I am biting the inside of my cheeks because I am sure, shes going to grill me alive after this. “God! We’re here at the plaza monument. Just come here fast. My brother is going crazy right now. You must come before he came back.” She warned. I know. Nix will surely scold me to the deepest of my bones. How can I forget that he acts like a father to us? “I-I will...I am on my way.” And I dropped the call and look at the man who’s walking ahead of me. “Ah, sir, do you know—” “I heard your conversation. I’ll send you to the plaza monument.” He answered! How can I forgot that he’s a wolf?! Of course he heard that. They can even hear miles away. “O-okay, thanks.” I responded and remained silent until we reach the garage and drove the available car away from this place. I found out that I was in the Judiciary Tower where criminals and rogues are detained. They said that I won’t have any record for this but I will be under observation from them. I don’t know why are they doing this but I know they will give up soon since I don’t have anything suspicious with me. The ride did not take that long and when we reached the plaza monument, I saw Hillary there, worried and jittered. I immediately hopped out from the car and thanked the man who sent me here. I guess, this will be the last time that I am crossing the path with these guys. “Hillary!” I immediately shouted to get her attention. Hillary’s eyes went wide when she saw me and she ran as fast as she can and hugged me immediately. “Where have you been! I was so worried because you’re not answering your phone!” She demanded while hugging me. “D-did you spent time with some wolf?”  She stuttere. Oh s**t, did she smell them? “A-ah, nope. I was alone. I just got carried away and forgot the time.” I don’t know how did I fake my smile but I was able to. I don’t want to tell her what happened. I don’t think telling her is a good sign. Is she going to think I am a criminal since I was detained? Pulled herself from the hug and stare at me and her eyes squinted. s**t, I think she noticed. “Don’t lie to me Seraphine. You will never be a good liar for that. Just tell me what happened.” Her face is demonic when angry. I don’t want to trigger that side of her. I sighed in surrender. “I will tell you what happened, but not here.” She pouted. “Okay, I’ll expect you to tell me whatever god knows happened to you. I can see it’s not simple based on the smell clinging to you.” She gave me a dissecting look that gave me shivers. “And what happened with your wrist?!” She held my arm and examined the gauze. “Ah, I tripped when I was looking for my way out.” I answered and that’s true. I really tripped trying to escape my way out, minus the rogues chasing me. “It’s a good thing you treated it. My brother won’t be happy about this.” She commented. “Yeah, I guess.” I gave a little laugh. “But who’s with you? I can smell all over you that some wolf was with you.” He spat suspiciously. How can I even hide it from her? Her keen of smelling is really like a dog. I rolled my eyes. “I was with someone who helped me. Stop that look. I know it was not easy, I will tell you but please don’t let your brother know about it. We will tell him that I got lost.” “Okay, okay. He’s coming and just expect an angry Nix.” She warned and it did not take long when I saw Nix, with grim on his face while not tearing his gaze at me. “Where have you been, young lady?” I shuddered. If I don’t know Nix, I would really think he’s gonna hit me or something. “I-I’m sorry, I got lost.” I lied and seek help from Hillary. Hillary immediately got my eye signal and she faced her raging brother. “Brother, she got lost. Let’s just be thankful that she’s back.” Hillary was smiling and trying to appease Nix. “I am sure thankful but it doesn’t mean that I am okay because of her carelessness.” He lashed out and put his gaze on me again. “This should not happen again, Seraphine. I don’t know what can I tell to your parents if something bad happened to you while on my watch.” I faltered. He makes sense. He’s the oldest and we are his responsibilities. “I’m sorry Nix. It won’t happen again.” I answered in a low tone of my voice. He always got mad over small things but this time, I could not even complain. “Alright, it’s time to go home, before we miss the train!” Hillary broke the tensed atmosphere and she clung to me. “Let’s go brother, there is no value to cry over a spilled milk.” Nix did not say anything. We walked back to the bus and rode our way to the train station. It’s almost dusk and we need to come home. The travel going back is unusually silent. I know Nix is mad about me but I could not do anything about it. I know he will be okay after this. He’s always like that since we were young. While Hillary is entertaining us and trying to put some things on the void. I don’t know how awkward this will be if Hillary is not here. It’s a good thing that she’s bubbly. It did not take too long and we reached our land, the Moon Valley Village. It’s not a city and far from the Main City but still a beautiful place. “Miss, your parents are worried because you arrived late than the expected time.” The driver commented as soon as he saw us getting off the train. Hillary smile. “I’m sorry, it just happened that we enjoyed touring around the Main City since it’s Seraphine’s first time.” Hillary reasoned out. Though it’s a lie, they literally tour around the city looking for me. The driver smiled. “That can’t be helped.” After that, we hopped on the car so we can ride our way back home. The first drop me at my house and they drive towards their home. I unlock the gate but suddenly I heard a low growl behind me. I immediately turned to my back to see if there are any wolves walking around but I saw none. The place is poorly lit and there are thick forest in front of our house. Maybe, there is a patrolling wolf. I choose to ignore it and opened the gate and went inside the house. Surprisingly, my parents did not scold me for coming home late. They said it was already expected since it’s my first time. “Have you already eaten?” My mom asked while I was changing my clothes to have a comfortable one. “Not yet mom!” I answered, now that she mention food, I feel hungry and I did not ate anything during my captivity. The shock made me forgot that I was hungry and even my heat was gone. They said, the duration of the heat takes one whole day and it will get worst during night time. Maybe because I am not a full pledge she-wolf so I don’t have to go all through that. I am glad it ended. It’s a pain that I have to control my lust. I don’t want to sleep with someone right now. I just don’t feel it right. After a quick shower and changed my clothes, I went down to eat. My father is busy with his paperworks so we did not disturbed him. I ate with gusto and suddenly the face if the Alpha crossed my memory. He is surely godly. Far different from the television to the point I wasn’t able to recognize him even I saw him in TV before. If he was beautiful in TV, he’s more in personal. But he’s too intimidating, but I guess it can’t be helped. He’s an old blood or more like an immortal. Wolves live life longer than human being, but him he’s way more than that. He’s been living for centuries and never gets old. His looks are like a twenty nice year old man on his prime. “Oh, the hunt was interrupted?” I heard my mom squealed. “Seraphine, it’s all over the news that it was interrupted. You were there watching, what happened?” She asked. It took me a few seconds to realized her question. Why it was interrupted? Is it because of the...incident? My eyes went wide. How can I answer my mom without her getting suspicious? “Ah, I don’t know exactly mom. They d-did not gave some details.” I answered and drank the water. I hope she won’t look at me. “Oh, even the news says it’s confidential too. I guess it’s really something that we should not know.” And she changed the channel. I sighed in relief. I don’t know why did they stopped the hunt—was it because of me?
