Cilla withdrew a set of keys from her housecoat, inserted one into the lock and turned it. Sunlight greeted them, a swath of golden rays that illuminated a decent-sized room. Noah stepped in first, at her insistence, as though it was her way of making him feel like it was already his. A smart tactic, because Noah felt the walls closing in on him, in a good way, as though saying welcome with a tight hold not unlike the one he’d received from its owner. A large bed was in the corner, a small sectional sofa, a functional desk and chair. Workman-like furniture, but far nicer than what he’d been given at the motel.
