Chapter 7He wasn’t even awake and the day was beginning as a nightmare. “Get up, kid. If he’s gonna pay for the crime, you’re damn well gonna do some time. In the kitchen, that is.” It wasn’t so much the words that woke him but the loud voice that accompanied the incessant knocking. Three knocks on the door, her bellowing through the thick wood, then another round of knocks. Noah not so much stirred as bolted upright from beneath the tangled blankets. Unaware of the time, his location, or who the hell was awakening him so rudely, disorientation finally gave way and he awoke.
