Chapter Fifteen

1652 Words

As quickly as Mona saw The Shadow Man, he was gone. Mona blinked several times. She willed her heart rate to slow. No way had she seen what she saw. The Shadow Men were only in dreams. Nightmares. She was awake, awake, awake. She had just kissed Kerri. That had been real. She ran her fingers over her lips as she glanced up the stairs. Kerri was nowhere to be seen; neither were any other possible participants in the study. Joyce and Lisa were most likely in their experimentation rooms. And Dr. Conlin hadn’t been to see them in days, trusting their occasional report as a valid enough status update. The building was getting to her—that was all. It swallowed all the daylight, along with the sounds, and made shadow people drift across her vision. This was nothing, a trick of stress and light.
