Chapter Twenty-Seven

1314 Words

Mona couldn’t find Kerri’s buzzer. Though each apartment unit had a name, Kerri wasn’t on any of them—but K.T. Stellar was. Mona buzzed. She waited. There was no response, but soon a door popped open, as if her invitation had been accepted. Mona’s stomach sank as soon as she reached the apartment door. Kerri hadn’t responded to her texts—so maybe she was just as sick of her bullshit as Carmen was. Maybe she thought Mona complained too much. Even if she knew the reason behind Mona’s neurosis, Kerri had been through so much more. What if she thought Mona was just a pretty little heart, complaining about a schoolboy crush, like her mother had thought for so long? Mona almost turned around. She knocked when she remembered Kerri’s hand on her ribcage, making all the pain and doubt disappear.
