When I see past the blur, I find a clear cable traveling up an IV. My hand’s heavily taped and stiff. I spot a needle inserted under the medical tape. The prick still lingers. I notice the rails on the side of my bed and realize that I’ve been admitted into the hospital. Where’s Ethan? I peer outside my door to the nurse’s station. Then, I spot a shadow in the corner of my eye, and a smile quickly plays across my face. Ethan is snoring, sound asleep, crunched in the chair next to me. A clump of soft curls swept over his face. Guilt hits me. He’s been up since six this morning, and here he is back at the hospital tending to me. I reach over and tap his knee. He stirs, dragging in a deep breath.
