Ensley woke to cold water droplets on her face.
She was back in the small cell in Asylum. All she wanted was to go back to sleep and see how this dream ends. They called her crazy and told her she wasn't a fairy. That she had made it all up in her mind to help her cope with her childhood. She knew that wasn't true. The mermaids brought her back to this forsaken place.
She laid her head down and tried to will herself back to sleep. Yet all she did was toss and turn.
Finally, after some time, she heard the lock on the door click.
“Ensley it's time for group and then a shower. You haven't been out of this room in weeks.” she knew the voice all too well. Martha was sweet to her. Even listening to her many tales. They weren't tales. They were all true and she could prove it. If she could just get back there. They called her mad and locked her away.
“Ensley, come on. You can't sleep your life away.” Martha was getting impatient with her. It's the same thing almost every week.
Ensley slowly sits up and looks at the old woman. All she could think was why she had to keep playing their games. She wasn't mad. That she knew. She finally stood up and followed Martha down the hallway.
She knew where they were going. She was going to have to talk and listen to people she didn't know. Hearing about how they are crazy and need to be here. They both knew how this would end. Ensley would start a fight between herself and one of the other patients just to get the hell out of that group. Then Dr. Matthew will want to see her and tell her she needs to be in the group. She didn't need anything but to get back on the other side of the mirror.
Ensley takes a seat and watches the other patients as they get started. Similar stories get told every time they get into this stupid circle. Ensley rolls her eyes.
Folding her arms she looks down at the floor. This is so dumb. She thinks.
“Ensley!” Martha snaps at her. Ensley glares at her.
She managed to make it through the group without any problems. Martha leads her to the showers. Giving her everything she needs to bathe. Ensley takes a slow shower and enjoys the quiet.
She dries off and walks up to the dressing room.
Once again the mirror starts to shimmer. She knew it! She wasn't crazy! She dressed quickly. She didn't have shoes but hopefully, there would be some on the other side. She steps through falling. She looks down and sees the sea below. The water rushes around her as she falls deeper into the sea.
Once she stops falling she swims to the surface. She takes in a deep breath.
“Ensley!?” she can hear Martha yelling for her as she swims to the beach. They all thought she was crazy well now she can prove them wrong. She walks up to the castle. She was going to get her proof one or way or another...
