Awake part 2

Ensley ran to the castle. Knowing she could get the proof she needed there. All she had to do was convince Calev to come back through the looking glass with her. They would have to let her go then. Surely with proof, they could no longer hold her there. At least she hoped they would realize that she wasn't crazy. She reached the doors of the castle. As she slows down to knock she sees that the doors stand wide open and the guards were fighting what appears to be fae. Without thinking Ensley runs into the fight. All she knew was that she had to find Calev. She pushed through the hoards of guards and fae. She watched in horror as one of the guards fell to his knees after a fae cut his head off. Snapping his teeth at her. She turned to run. "Come back here!" He screams at her. She rounds the hallway running as fast as her feet could carry her. She knew exactly where to go. She kept running for her life as the fighting spilled into the grand ballroom as well as the throne room. There she sees him. "Markus!" She yells. Markus turns to her. "There you are. We have been looking for you. Where have you been?" He demands. His eyes darkened as he walks up to her. "Where is Calev?" She asked while picking up a bow. She knew she may need it. Her gut was telling her to run far away for him. "The mermaids have him," Markus replies with little to no emotions at all. "Why?" She asked as she steps over the dead looking for a sword. She knew that she would have to defend herself at some point. Markus watched her as she picks up the sword her eyes never leaving his purple ones. At that point, she knew exactly what he was capable of doing. "Ensley, come here, please." He spoke so softly that she hardly heard him. "No! Why do the mermaids have Calev?" She asked. Markus laughs at her. "Oh, I'm sure if you hurry you can save him. If they haven't drowned him yet, that is." Markus said as he walks in a circle around her. Ensley has the sword drawn. Her eyes never left his. "What do you plan on doing with that?" He asks "Im going to take your head off!" She yells This only pisses Markus off more. "Oh, Ensley, you have no idea what is going on, do you?" Markus takes a step closer to her. Making her back up. As he speaks he walks her back until she has nowhere to retreat. "Im the one who brought you here. I was the one who watched you every day. Not Calev. He never did a thing to help you. Calev is selfish and a coward! He ran like the snake he is once he realized that I would no longer stand in that shadow of his. For days I watched as he lied to you. Never once did I speak up. He is after all my Prince. Now he will pay for everything he did. Once he is dead I will rule and you will be my queen like I planned all those years ago." He was right in front of her now. Her back pressed against the wall. She kept the sword up. "You lie. Calev is the one who opened the looking glass not you. You have been trying to overthrow Calev for years. Calev already knew what you are. He was just too kind to kill you. But Im not!" She said as she rushes him. Swinging the sword at him. Markus deflects her attack side stepping. A deafening clack rings out as the pair start sword fighting. "Give it up Ensley. You can't fight me and save Calev at the same time." He said. Ensley swings her sword harder and faster. The thing she learned about Markus from day one is he is full of himself. He believes he is better at everything and that is his downfall. But for now, he was right. She had to save Calev. Before their sword fight, she had noted that the window was open. She knew that jumping was her only way to escape. She also knew that Markus wasn't paying attention to where she was leading them. "Give it up Ensley. Let the mermaids kill Calev and become my queen. I will give you the world. I'll even go back with you to the asylum. We will tell them the truth and you will be free to come home with me. If not then I'll make sure you spend the rest of your life under lock and key. Ether it is here with me or there in that forsaken place." The clacking of swords never stopped as Ensley easily deflected his attacks. Ensley could feel the wind from the window now. "Never!" She yelled at him. She raised her sword and brought it down on his arm. All she heard was his screams of pain as she jumped out the window. Markus was after her in seconds. "I'll get you! You will be my queen one way or another. Or I'll feed you to the mermaids as well! Mark my words!" He screamed after her. Ensely kept running until she reached the mermaid's lagoon. There she stopped and rested. She knew she would be safe for a while. Markus wouldn't dare come here. Ensley dropped the sword and sat on the sand. Thinking of how she would get Calev home. She just hoped that he was alive... Markus pov He stood at the window watching her run away. He knew she was going to the lagoon. He had made sure to play her right into his hands. He has watched and waited for her for so long. Now there was no more waiting for her. She will be his no matter what! His purple eyes twinkled at the thought of her in his bed. In due time he would finally have her. Calev was no more. Ensley had no idea that Calev was already dead. Hanging in the courtyard for all to see. Poor Ensley will be no match for the mermaids. Yet he knew they wouldn't kill her. They knew of his plans to marry her. He paid them handsomely to bring her back here alive. Now all he had to do was wait.
