Chapter Twenty-Four It was two in the morning when Masser walked Taz across the parking lot to her car. It had been raining and there was a dewy mist about the unshaved skin of his face. He watched patiently while Taz dug keys out of the bottom of her bag. There was an awkward moment while he held the door for her; when Taz suspected he wanted to lean in and plant a kiss on her mouth. He felt it too and shifted his weight unevenly, stumbled out a good night and, reaching across, he squeezed her arm. Taz sat behind the wheel of the Crown Vic and watched him retreat across the damp pavement, his shoulders caved as he walked toward his own vehicle.
