His face was flushed with surprise as he sank to his knees. "Get away from him!" A voice cried. Smoke from the fire was seeping into my lungs. I opened my eyes and saw a young girl standing over me. She was wearing a white dress and had long black hair. She raised her hand and pointed her finger at him, her voice full of anger. "How dare you do this, Shadow King?" She roared. She drew another arrow. The arrow was filled with sacred power! It can't be. I thought. Though my eyes were becoming blurry, I was able to recognize the young girl. And I couldn't believe she was here now.
She released the arrow, and I watched as the Shadow King disappeared into thin air. The girl turned to me and her eyes were filled with sadness. When I dropped to the ground, I saw her running towards me. She whispered, "I'm sorry we're late." And then everything turned black.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed. The girl stood over me with a bright smile on her face. Next to her was another young girl who looked exactly like her. She wore a blue top with a blue skirt that reached her knees. And her caramel face was covered in make-up and her hair was in two buns. One on each side. It was her twin sister.
"Miyu. Chiho." I said softly. Chiho and Miyu both had tears in their eyes as they smiled. They embraced me tightly but I was surprised that they were here at our pack's hospital. From my understanding, they went to Japan 5 years ago to finish their priestess training with their grandmother at their family shrine. Miyu, now wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans, offered me a cup of water and helped me sit up. Chiho got a towel and wiped my forehead. I thanked them and told them that I was happy to see them. Chiho smiled and said, "We missed you so much."
"I've missed you guys too," I said. "But I didn't know you both were coming back."
Miyu smiled again. "We finished quickly then expected." Chiho nodded. "We wanted to surprise you but we felt the presence of the shadow king in the manor but Ryder was too slow to get us there." Miyu nodded and said, "We decided to leave without him." Chiho sighed and said, "We needed to act fast. The shadow king isn't someone you would want lingering around." Miyu nodded in agreement.
"The shadow king," I repeated. The more they said that name the more I felt a cold chill running down my spine. I recognized him in my dreams when I was little. However, I was never able to determine why. Before it was too late, I needed to gather more information about this shadow king.
The girls talked my ear off until the doctor and their father walked into the room. The doctor was a woman I didn't recognize. She had flaming red hair, emerald green eyes and chestnut skin. She was at least five feet four inches shorter than Chiho's and Miyu's father. He was 6'6'' with mocha colored skin and sandy brown hair with brown eyes like his son Ryder. His muscular figure was still a sight to behold since the last time I saw him. Having said that, Mike has always been a fitness enthusiast.
He smiled at me along with the doctor. " Glad to see you're awake, son," he said cheerfully. "We were getting worried for a second. It looked like you wouldn't wake up." He patted me on the back which made me wince a bit. Immediately after that, he got a smack on the back of his head from the doctor next to him. "Ouch," Mike cried. "Jesus Kimberly, you didn't have to hit me that hard." Mike rubbed the back of his head and looked at me sheepishly. The doctor just rolled her eyes and said, "Next time, be more careful." Mike laughed and said, "Yes, ma'am."
After chuckling a bit, I cleared my throat to say, "Hello there. I don't think we've met." I reached out my hand to the doctor and she shook it. "Oh we've met before Wyatt." She giggled. "I have met you the first day you were born."
I raised an eyebrow in confusion. And this time she chuckled. "I was the one that delivered you sweetie. Along with my nieces and nephews. And most of your pack members." "What? How?" I asked. She winked and said she was the midwife that delivered all of the babies in the pack. She explained that she had been around for a long time, and had been delivering babies for generations. "And then my sister became head doctor of the pack's hospital," Mike said. "That's amazing," I smiled. "Thank you so much for helping my pack for all these years."
"It's my pleasure, King Wyatt," she said softly. But then her expression became more serious. "But before you go back home, we have to talk about the shadow man." "What do you know about him?" I asked intently. Before the doctor could answer my question, my parents rushed into the room. "Wyatt!" My mother cried. She throws herself at me and wraps her arms around me tightly. She pulls away and places her hands on my cheeks. "Are you OK, Hunny?" She examines me to make sure there's nothing on me. Then she glances up at the doctor.
"Is he OK?" "Did you give him anything!?" "Why are you just standing there!?" Her voice was loud and full of emotion. She stepped away, her expression a mix of fear, anger, and worry. My father steps closer to my mother and places his hand on her shoulder. "It's all right, Maria." My father says calmly. As her silver grey eyes settled, her emotions remained strong. As I squeezed my mother's hand, I felt her softness and smoothness. "I'm fine mother," I assured her. " I was just talking to the doctor about the next step."
The more I started to look at Doctor Kimberly and took notice of her serious stare, the cold and deadly look on her face turned towards my parents. "I don't think Doctor Kimberly likes our parents very much," Balto stated. "The question is why?" I wondered. "Doctor Kimberly," I called her. Her gaze continued to linger on my parents. My mother returned her energy while my father glared at Doctor Kimberly in shame. As I looked towards Mike, it appeared as if he had an answer to all this tension.
"Can someone please tell me what's going on here?" I asked. Mike cleared his throat to speak. "I think there is something you need to know regarding the shadow man, Wyatt." My mother vigorously shook her head. "He doesn't need to know anything!" She shouted. "Yes he does!" Doctor Kimberly yelled back. "He attacked the manor and almost killed him tonight!" My mom's eyes widened in shock. She looked at me with a mix of fear and regret. "I'm sorry, I should have told you," she said softly. "Tell me what?" I asked.
"The shadow man marked you when you were born." Doctor Kimberly answered grimly. "And it's all your parents' fault!"
