Daegan's POV After school, Lilith slides into the car, pressing herself against the door, like she's trying to put distance between us. She doesn't even look at me, eyes glued to the window, as if it holds some secret. "What's wrong?" I ask. She pauses. "Nothing." Lie. I let it go—for now. Dinner was worse. She inhaled her food like it was a chore, then bolted upstairs before the plates were cleared. Her empty chair mocked me. Later, I ring her doorbell. She opens the door, her expression cold as ice.
