CHAPTER THREE _ MIDNIGHT ECHOES 🌃🌌

391 Words
Amara couldn’t sleep. The dream from last night still sat heavy on her mind. The man had been closer this time. She could almost see his face. Almost hear him speak. But she woke up too soon. She sat at her desk with a cup of tea, staring at her sketchbook. Her fingers moved slowly as she drew. She wasn’t trying to make anything specific, but somehow, the same shape kept appearing. A face. A man’s face. Always just half-finished. She turned the page. More sketches. More ocean waves. The same eyes. She rubbed her hands over her face. “What’s wrong with me?” she whispered. Her roommate, Bisi, peeked into the room. “You okay?” “Yeah. Just… tired.” “You were talking in your sleep again.” Amara froze. “What did I say?” “I don’t know. Something about the moon and a name. Sounded like a love story,” Bisi said with a smile, then disappeared back into her room. Amara stared at the sketch again. A love story? She didn’t even believe in those anymore. Later that day, she walked through the quiet streets of the town. It was a peaceful place, with the ocean just a few blocks away. She liked it here. It felt… familiar. She stopped at a small bookshop and went inside. The smell of old paper wrapped around her like a blanket. She wandered to the back where the local history books were kept. One thin book caught her eye: “Legends of the Moon Tide Coast.” She opened it. One story stood out. A tale about a spirit of the moon who fell in love with a man from the earth. Their love was forbidden. The moon forgot her name to protect him. Amara stared at the page. Her heart beat faster. It was just a story. A myth. But something about it felt true. She left the shop without buying the book. She needed air. As she stepped outside, a breeze lifted her hair. The moon was rising again. Her skin tingled, like someone had just called her name. But no one was there. She looked up and whispered, “Who are you?” Far away, on a moving bus, Ezra opened his eyes from a dream. And this time, he saw her clearly.
