Chapter Five

1004 Words
Evie’s POV I woke suddenly, a pool of sweated scattered beneath me reminding me of where my heads at. ‘I don’t need this today’ I thought to myself as I stripped the bed and put the washing in the laundry basket. With a steadying breath I walked to the wardrobe and find my black pencil skirt, cream blouse and my black blazer. From the bottom drawer I pull out my black flat pumps, no need to embarrass myself tripping in heels today. With knowing what attire I will wear I head to the shower. My hair has gone frizzy and wavy from sleep so I wash it and give myself a thorough scrub in attempt to scrub memories and thoughts out of me, as well as make the sweat disappear from my skin. Once out I dried myself and applied strong deodorant and my favourite perfume, Daisy, before applying a light layer of makeup and then turning my attention to my hair. I blow dry it first before applying a sleeking serum and using my straighteners to stop my natural curls from being a pain. The only downside to curly hair is it can look like a bush, and if I’m honest I ain’t up for the bush look today. Once done in the bathroom i head to the bedroom to finish getting dressed ensuring I remember tights. Then I have a penny drop moment. Let’s make myself feel sexy and confident. I need it today. I go into my underwear drawer and pull out my favourite white lace bralette and underwear. f**k yes. This will be it. If I look and feel sexy I’ll hopefully feel more confident to. After dressing I head to the kitchen and grab a juice from my cleanse kit and a herbal tea in my flask. I put my salad in my work bag for my lunch and a fruit bar. That should be alright, I’ve meal prepped some chicken and rice with veggies for when I get home. Once organised and everything in my bag, I grab my car keys and exit the flat and walk down the stairs. One of my neighbours is near the door and kindly opens it for me a smile. He’s an elderly gentleman, kind natured. He once asked me during Covid to buy him a bag of sugar. He was terrified. Of course I got the sugar I ain’t gonna let a man down on the sugar in his tea am I? Anyways I reached my car. I bought this recently, I had a Vauxhall Adam before this but got rid of it due to the age and ULEZ prices and bought an electric Mazda. Bailey had the same idea and somehow we both ended up with the same car in different colours. Mine was white with a black sunroof and black mirror cover whereas Bailey has a navy blue one. I look at the clock on the dash as I press the start button and it states ‘07:45’. I guess I will be early but you can never predict London traffic. Once settled, music on, I start to proceed with the journey. The roads were busy and full of chaos just as I presumed. Luckily I still got to work for 08:30. Gives me half an hour in the staff room to prepare myself mental for the day ahead. Since at the moment I don’t drink coffee, I make myself a herbal tea that was advertised as awakening. We’ll see how that works out. As I am stood getting hot water from the machine, I jump from the feeling of a hand on my upper arm. Turning to my right I see who it is, Mr Wolfe. He is stood there smirking before asking “how come you didn’t hear me come in?” “Sorry sir was in a world of my own it seems. Can I get you anything?” “It’s alright I’ve got myself covered for now thank you. I’ve only come in for a coffee before heading to my office. You can leave your stuff in there if you wish until we get you a designated desk assigned. Also early, I like it. See you at nine miss snow I’ve got a task waiting for you,” I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks, god knows why. I mean he’s intimidating and attractive I’ll give him that. “Yes sir, I’ll be right up might as well get started. It’s not like I’m doing anything in here. Then if you don’t mind catching me up to speed on today’s calendar.” Well at least I’m sounding confident. A lot more than yesterday. He nods and gestures for me to follow him. I quickly gather my things and walk as fast as I can to catch him up. Damn he has big strides and my little legs are paying the price, glad I didn’t wear heels. We reach his office and then I remember I’ve not put my salad in the fridge. I start to internally panic thinking I don’t want to make a show about it. “Problem?” How the hell does he know? Am I that obvious? “You look worried what is the matter?” I look down at the floor and mumble “forgot to put my lunch in the fridge sir,” he huffs and walks over and points to the corner of the room and says “problem solved miss snow, you can keep it in my personal fridge. We have a lot of work to do so we’ll have a working lunch today.” I nod and thank him before moving to put it in the fridge. Walking back to the chair I notice some papers on his desk as he starts up the computers and places his phone on the desk. I reach the seat across from him and quickly pull out my notebook, pens and diary. Waiting for my day to begin.
