Chapter Four

1370 Words
Evie’s POV As soon as I stepped back onto the street I rang Bailey. Bailey is my best friend since birth, so was Kayleigh but that’s another story. Bailey got into Oxford University with me when we finished A levels. Kayleigh on the other hand left school at sixteen and is working her way up in social care. Kayleigh recently moved down here to be closer to me and Bailey but she works a lot. I know Bailey gets Mondays off to study as she is doing a law degree and is currently doing half of her internship at the local courthouse. When I pressed the call button it rang a few times before she answered. “Hey how’d it go?” Her sweet voice simmered through the phone instantly making me feel lighter. “Went well I think. I’ve signed the contract anyways. Want a girls night we can talk more about it then. We can ring Kayleigh at 10pm when she clocks off for her sleep in and fill her in.” “Sounds like a plan I’ll come over for five and we’ll order pizza and I’ll bring wine. Although, not too much wine we both have work tomorrow.” I chuckle at her attempt of being sensible. Bailey is the wild one of the trio. Always up for a good time no matter what but since the courthouse she has calmed a lot, taking her future a bit more seriously. We end the call and I walk to the underground station and grab the next train to my house. Once home I get out of the uncomfortable slim fit trouser and blouse and put on my loungewear. Only Bailey coming no need to be fancy. Shoving my untameable hair into a messy bun I hear the doorbell. I move to answer it but before I can Bailey bursts into the living room showing off two wine bags like it’s a Prada fashion show. Giggling I take them off of her and say “thought we were being sensible Bails?” “Yeah yeah we will only share one bottle but I didn’t know what you was in the mood for,” oh Bailey you don’t think I know that excuse by now. She clearly means rosé for now red for eating and white for after but I let her believe she has me fooled. “So Evster what went down then?” Bailey forever needing info and evidence like I’m a secret court case. “So Mr Wolfe did the meeting himself. Something about the person who usually does it being busy. He got straight into it very professional. He’s got a posh t**t accent though will give him that. Seemed ok was going over basics and gave me a copy of the contract as it outlines the policies and procedures. Gave me a bit of sarcasm at that point asking if I would like him to read it to me. I was like f**k no. Then he asked why I was delayed and I just said it was personal and set a boundary that I don’t want to talk about it and he seemed to respect that.” I think I explained that clear enough. I kinda rushed through as I’m starving. I’ve been trying this new cleanse thing and this is my first time having junk food in a couple of weeks. “Well sounds eventful but mutual professional boundaries. Glad you seem to be in a positive workplace. You need your confidence back girl. You’re so talented and strong and so f*****g beautiful. I hope this new lease on life and this opportunity helps you heal now that you’re ready.” It’s not often you see Bailey deliver words from her heart. She can often speak without thinking but always means well. You know when you’re on the bad side of Bailey as she blows quickly. She is a firecracker or as Kayleigh calls her a ‘pocket rocket.’ We’re all around the same height five foot 6 inches. Kayleigh and Bailey look like twins. Main difference is Kayleigh is a little more petite; slim waist, slim defined arms and legs but naturally wide muscular hips and booty with just enough boob. Bailey is more curvy; thick thighs, big boobs with a slim to thick waist to hips ratio. Both gorgeous just different body shapes. I’m different to all of us. I’ve got distant Arabic roots from my great grandparents but my body type is like Baileys. Slim but curvy. Taking me out of my thoughts the doorbell rings. Bailey is up in a flash and it’s the pizza guy that always flirts with her and she purposefully flirts back as he gives us a discount every time she does. She places the pizza box on the floor before opening it revealing the margarita pizza. I know it’s a bit boring but what can I say? I love cheese. We start eating and Bailey opens the red wine like I thought she would. Doesn’t even ask just does like always. We start chatting about uni and Kayleigh working a lot thinking she must be close to burning out. That’s the problem with the health and social sector. Always short staffed and with Kayleigh being the deputy manager if the team leader can’t do it or isn’t on call she has to. According to Bailey it’s not even Kayleigh’s job to pull shifts out of her arse but Kayleigh will be Kayleigh. Never letting one of her people be without staff. After pizza Bailey puts on a silly rom com. Something we’ve watched a thousand times but always loved. The acting in it is so poor it’s laughable but we enjoy the cliché plot. Then on screen the couple starts kissing and we start dissecting it, “this is so cringey. I feel bad for the female actor having to kiss him when he uses all that tongue,” Bailey reputed. “Agreed if a guy ever shoved his tongue down my throat like that I think I’d gag,” Bailey chuckles at my remark and then excitably remembers a story what Kayleigh told us about her time abroad with her family. “Can you remember when Kayleigh said she kissed that local on holiday and she said he used just tongue and smelled like he’d just ate tuna?” Me and Bailey cry with laughter and then realise it’s 10pm. We decide to ring our mother of the group, Kayleigh. She answers almost immediately in a hushed tone. “Hey guys, so Evangeline ballerine how did today go with hotshot publishing house?” Kayleigh as bright as ever even though exhausted asked. “Went smoothly, got my contract, start tomorrow,” I said counting the immediate points of what happened on my fingers as I explained. “Good. I’m glad to hear you’re doing ok. Also Bailey how’s the court house going?” Kayleigh never misses a bloody thing. She is the most observant person I know but it probably comes from the nature of her job. “It’s going great thanks girly. I’ve got an interesting one tomorrow regarding contract law so it’s gonna be good since that’s one of the specialties I’ve taken,” Bailey explains a little bit further in detail but I can’t keep up. My mind is wandering a little, I’m shadowing the CEO tomorrow and I’m not going to lie I’m shitting myself a little. Maybe one more glass of wine won’t hurt. I pour myself another small glass of red. I join back into the conversation and it’s not long after Kayleigh says she needs to go get some sleep and we agree and Bailey needs to get back to her apartment yet. We say our goodbyes and Bailey leaves in a taxi since she left her car at home due to knowing she would be drinking. She can be sensible. Once she has confirmed she has got home safe via message I finally relax and go brush my teeth, freshen up, get into shorts and a tank top and jump into bed with a herbal tea. Soon I fall asleep waiting for tomorrow to come.
