Chapter 6

I couldn't believe it. I had used my magic to heal her, without even realizing it. Red and white streams of color spread throughout the car, to Gina's lip. "Please," I begged. "Don't freak out." "What the HELL is going on?" She shouted. I didn't want to tell her. Scared she would leave me and refuse to come back. "If you don't tell me what you are, I will leave. I will never talk to you again." "I'm a hybrid," I murmured. "What the f**k is a 'hybrid'? Like, the mythical creatures? Like, two things in one body?" She took a deep breath. "You're a witch, obviously. So, what is the second creature?" "Please, don't say it like that." I hated being referred to as a creature. "I asked a question." She sounded very calm. Deadly calm. "I'm a vampire." "No way. I need proof." Her voice was laced with disbelief. I turned my head the other way. I promised my mother I would never show anyone what I am. Not again. Now, I have no choice. I sent up a silent prayer to my Ma and Pa. I opened my mouth, willing my fangs to pop out. "Happy?" It came out as more of a muffled 'appy'. "Oh, god. You really are a vampire." She took a deep breath. "Oh, my. Wow. I like a vampire. This is so cool!" I stared at her as if she had grown another head. "I always knew they were real, but people said I was crazy. Oh my god." Her words started to jumble together. Her excitement was palpable. "Woah." My fangs retracted seconds before I spoke. "You aren't scared of me?" "Oh, I'm terrified. More than that, I'm fascinated by you. Excited. As long as you don't kill me, we're good." She smiled at me. "So, I take it we're still going on that date?" I was so confused by everything happening. What was I supposed to do? Kiss her? Yes. Smack some sense into her? Maybe. Kill her? Definitely not. She grabbed my face, leaning in. She nibbled on my bottom lip. She pulled away, all too soon. "I'll take that as a yes." "Yeah. Meet me at the pizza place by the school." I smiled at her. She smiled at me. I pecked her on the lips. We continued the drive to her house. She lived in a rickety shack of a house. All I wanted to do was offer everyone a place to stay. "This is my stop. Have a good day. Friday, 7:30?" "Works for me." She pecked me, stepped out of the car, and walked up the steps of her house. They creaked under her lack of weight. I waited until she got into the house to drive back to my house. I began to freak out as I walked upstairs, to my room. What am I going to wear? I had a week to figure out what I was going to wear. Why was I freaking out? The rest of Sunday passed really quickly. As did the rest of the week, until Friday night. I began to freak out when I realized I still hadn't picked anything to wear. I settled on a 90's grunge look. I had a cropped, patterned tank-top, a pair of ripped, jean short-shorts, with see-through black tights, and high-rise Vans. I hid my car under a tarp after getting to the pizza shop. I was not risking losing her. She was so expensive, and hard to find. I walked into the pizza parlor, smile on face. Gina waved me down from a nearby table. I took in her thigh-length, silk, black dress. "You look amazing," we simultaneously spoke. "Thank you," we spoke in-sync. We both giggled. I sat down across from Gina. "Did you order anything yet?" I questioned. She shook her head. "Nope. I got here a couple of minutes before you did." A waitress came to our table. We gave her our orders. Mine: two slices of hawaiian pizza with a large Coke, and Gina's: a slice of cheese pizza with a medium Sprite. When we finished our pizza, we took our drinks to my car. I drove us back to my house. We watched movies up until about midnight, when I realized Gina was asleep. I took her upstairs, to the room she stayed in last time. I stood in the doorway for a couple of minutes, marveling at her beauty. I closed her door, returning to the large living room. I turned the television off, and began to feel ass though someone was watching me. I checked the calendar and realized...it's payday. "Hey Frazer. I don't have a job, but I do have some...valuables. They're worth more than I owe." "Show me," he commanded. I took him upstairs to my room. Handing him original copies of books, gold necklaces, silver jewelry, and original art pieces. "Good, God. This will cover it for a year. Thanks T. You know I hate getting onto you." He stuck his nose into the air. "Mmm. That smell." His fangs protruded from his gums. "Don't you dare. I really like her. She has nowhere to go." I knew how his bloodlust could get, sometimes. "Leave. Now. Before you hurt someone, and I hurt you." I could hear footsteps, but they weren't mine or Frazer's. "Don't. You. Dare." She walked into my room. "What's going on?" She began to pale when Frazer turned to her, fangs out. "Frazie," I paused. "Get. Out. Now. Gina, go back to your room," I commanded. I shoved Frazer out of my window, using an old spell to keep his feet and legs bound. "You're good," I yelled down the hall. "What happened?" She walked into my room. "Good old friend got a little...carried away. Sorry, G. I should have known better. I screwed up." "It's okay." She rubbed my shoulder. "I just hope whatever you did works." "It does. I promise. The society will come get him in the morning. For now, we need to focus on sleeping." I sat in my bed, Gina walked to the door, turning at the doorframe. She looked as though she was trying to make a choice. "Can I stay with you tonight?" "If you want." I pulled the covers back on my bed. She crawled into my arms. I covered her with the blankets. She cuddled closer to my body, laying on her hands. She looked so gentle. So, human. So, alive. So, beautiful. I held her close, kissing the back of her head. "Goodnight G," I whispered. I fell asleep soon after she did.
