Isa POV
“Why are we doing this again?“, Gwen asked me nervously for at least the 10th time. She whispered, even though we talked in our private pack link, so no one else could hear us.
But I couldn´t deny that I was tensed up, too.
“Because,“, I threw a glance back at her small figure. “when Josh and his boys sneaked into wolf territory last month, and drew smiley faces on each of their training dummys at the drill ground, they didn´t expect someone to over top that.“
“Yeah. I didn´t expect that either. Who would be that crazy?“, she asked me. I laughed due to her dry tone. But I was also a bit worried, she could let me down. So I came to a hold and faced her. The foxes unsteady eyes focused on mine.
“Are you with me?“, I asked, all ease gone. Of course I wouldn´t force her into following me, if she really didn´t want to go, but I wasn´t sure if I would find the courage to do this alone.
“Ever am, ever will be.“, Gwen nudged me lightly with her nose and continued to walk, so it was my turn to follow her now. Our steps became smoother and we started to make fun of those sternly, grumpy wolves. As foxes, mischief is our nature and it became a game of the adolescent to sneak into their territory as a dare. Of course, the wolves weren´t amused about it and of course, just crossing their borders soon wasn´t enough of a rush for us anymore. So everyone went a little further than the ones before.
As soon as I could smell the wolves, I took back the lead, knowing that the border had to be near. Gwen didn´t complain. I was always the one with the crazy ideas, and she always had my back.
The night was dark, which was an advantage to us, in combination with our small frame. We used that fact, when we crawled trough the high grass, my senses all on edge. I knew the warriors were patrolling the frontier very watchful, but as soon as we would have gotten a little deeper into their territory, we should be safe for a while.
I like to watch them from a safe distance, so I know at least a bit about them and their behavior.
It seemed like we were lucky, because the scent I smelled was fresh, which meant the guard just came by and we should have plenty of time, before he would come around again to notice someone entered their territory.
I smiled inwardly and got more excited, now that we made it through the first task.
“Come on Gwen.“, I urged her to get faster as we ran through the forest. “I can´t wait to see Joshs face, when he learns about it.“, we laughed at the imagination of Joshs flustered face.
“He definitely needs to be taught a lesson. Thinks he´s the coolest and no one can do better.“
I rolled my eyes at the bare thought of his triumphal expression we had to endure for a whole month now. High time to stop his reign.
As we ran, the trees began to move further away, revealing more and more stars. So we slowed down once again and came to a halt at the clearing, where the pack is living.
“Isa, are you sure?“, Gwen asked me one last time.
I took a deep breath before I nod.
“Here goes nothing.“
I think I have never been more tensed up in my life, than in this very moment. We sneaked near the trees, so we wouldn't be seen easily, even though the people around here should have been asleep by this time of the night.
“It´s right there.“, I motioned to the biggest house at the clearing, the pack house. Of course it was centered in the middle of the buildings, but hey, no one said this would be easy. Gwen didn´t respond to my comment, I guess she was too stressed. I was so under pressure for myself, I felt the fur in my neck raised up a bit. But I could feel her right behind me, so I didn´t worry about that.
We reached the first building and I stuck close to the wall. I peeked around the corner before I ran to the next house, and we continued this, till
we were at the pack house. I shifted back into my human form an took a little bag from my wrist, that I had fixed there before we left. Being naked in front of each other is not really a thing for us, since we grew up together.
“Okay, where are you.“, I mumbled as I took a quick look into the windows until I found what we were here for. With the lock pick I brought with me in my bag, it was easy to open the window in a short time a climb in. I stored my tool and fixed the back at my wrist again, while Gwen jumped through the window and nodded appreciative at our surrounding.
“Not bad. So, where so we start?“, I asked with a wide grin. Tons of supplies were stored here in shelves, barrels, even hanging from the ceiling. Gwen goes for the cheese, while I bit in every fruit I could see. It was hard to stay silent, cause it made so much fun. I opened the fridge and started throwing some eggs, when I hit Gwens head by accident.
“What the hell?“, she shots, while the eggs flew across her face. She tried to lick it off and I had to cover my mouth to mumble my laughter. The fox, currently standing on the counter, shook it´t fur so wild, that the flour fell down. The kitchen exploded in a white cloud, witch covered both of us. We shared a shocked expression before we collapsed on the ground laughing. When I finally was able to speak again, I stood up and gestured towards the window.
“We should go now, and we should hurry. We´ve been here for too long.“ Not to mention that we were way to loud and someone could check up this room soon.
“Agree.“ Gwen noticed the gravity of our situation and quickly jumped out of the window. I shift back, grab a ham with my teeth as a proof, before I follow her into the night. I could see some light in the pack house an quickly ran towards the trees, Gwen right next to me. We both didn´t want to end up as a nice fur at the wall. But luckily, we managed to ran of the wolf territory unharmed and unnoticed.
