Ryker’s POV
“I swear to the moon Goddess, Jenner, when we get home, I am going to take every f*****g law book and scroll I can find and SHOVE THEM STRAIGHT UP YOUR ASS!!! I yelled in Jenner’s face! What I wouldn’t give to be able to throat punch this shithead into next week!
“Ryker, you’re not helping.” Titan said in a defeated tone. We had mind linked all the councilmen to come to the hospital so that Titan could stay close to his mate. As soon as we informed them of the connection we had made, Jenner had to open his fat f*****g mouth about how, even if she is the missing alpha’s daughter, that still didn’t fall on this alpha as a crime.
“I’m sorry your Highness, but it’s quite simple. Alpha Drake would have only been six or so at the time of the war. If that is the missing daughter, then it was his father, Alpha Ian, who brought her here and broke the law. He unfortunately died last year, so there is still nothing to pin on this alpha. All he has to do is claim he never knew her identity and believed his father had brought in a rogue child. Just like he said". Jenner reiterated and it took every last bit of my f*****g restraint to not knock his teeth down his throat! I had never been able to stand this douchebag and he felt likewise towards me. He saw me the same way my king sperm donor and a lot of others in the royal court did; the spare heir. According to my sperm donor, that was the only reason for my existence. If something ever happened to Titan before he could produce an heir, the throne would not be left vacant. I refused to refer to the former king as my father because he hadn’t been one. Titan had been the closest thing I had ever had to a father.
“So you’re saying that even if we can prove that the girl is the missing daughter of the alpha and it would prove they had taken women and children as prisoners of that war and probably many others, it still gives us nothing against this alpha?” Titan asked.
“Essentially, yes. However, if that is the alpha daughter, that would give us the foundation to investigate further into the pack. We can now investigate all his father’s dealings and property. Maybe through that we will be able to turn up something that will link to this alpha.” Jenner finished, as if it was great news that now we had a s**t ton of more digging to do.
“All we need is a DNA swab from her cheek to compare it to Alpha Jack’s DNA. We still have it in his file. It shouldn’t take more than a few days once the lab in the kingdom gets the sample.” Counsilman Cantrell spoke up.
“I’ll have the doctor collect it and send it off. In the meantime, everyone keeps digging.” Titan said, and waved his hand to dismiss them. I was about to ask him if he wanted me to go down and interrogate the alpha, when all at once he groaned and grabbed his chest! When he looked up at me, his eyes were frantic and that was when I heard the alarms sounding from down the hallway!
“GET ME TO HER ROOM!” Titan shouted. I yanked him up to his feet and quickly dragged him down the hallway! He hadn’t fully recovered from all the energy he had spent through the mate bond a few hours ago!
We burst into the room just as the doc shocked her chest again and I felt Titan’s chest jolt! It was amazing to me that their bond could be this strong already without marking each other! He fell to his knees again and closed his eyes. I knew he was sending every ounce of energy he had left to her! If things kept up like this, they would both die! Another zap and finally that f*****g monitor started beeping and her heartbeat came back!
Titan slumped back against my legs and I wrapped my arms around his torso and hoisted him to his feet! Goddess, I forgot how damn heavy he is! It takes my all to get him standing enough to lean on me. We stumbled to the other bed in the room where he’s been sleeping since she got here. Dr. Marshall notices and comes over to him and checks his pulse.
“Nurse, I need…” but he doesn’t get to finish his order before Titan reaches up and grabs his collar! He pulls him down close to his face.
“If you call one person off of her to come look at me, I will not be responsible for my actions! I am fine. You focus on her!” He said and let go of the doctor’s shirt. Dr. Marshall hesitated for one moment and then went back to her. I looked at Titan who had thrown one of his huge arms across his face and was trying to regulate his breathing. I didn’t want to tell him I was worried about him. He was the strongest man I had ever known in my life but I could tell the toll this was taking on him. Both mentally and physically.
The chaos around her had finally died down and the doc came back over to Titan, who seemed to be passed out.
“Why does she keep having these seizures and her heart stopping? She seems to be getting worse the more care we give her?” I asked him. He took off his glasses and ran a hand through his greying hair. He looked almost as wiped out as Titan.
“That’s the thing, her body has been running on barely anything and adrenaline for years. Now that it’s actually getting the nutrition it needs, it’s almost having a shock reaction to it. I would slow it down but there is another problem. I believe the day they lashed her with the melting silver, they cut into the bones in her legs because they have no protection, causing infection to set up. Bone infections are extremely hard to treat and compounded with her malnutrition, dehydration and all the previous trauma to her body, it really is like putting a band-aid over a crevice in a dam. I get one thing fixed just for two more to go wrong!” Dr. Marshall finished as his voice cracked. I squeezed his shoulder, trying to reassure him that we knew he was doing the best he could. He cleared his throat.
“There is a surgery we can do that can clear the infection in her legs and she may get well enough to be able to walk again, but I am not set up for that big of a surgery, I don’t have the equipment or staff to pull it off.” He said in a defeated voice.
“The hospital in our kingdom is more than equipped and staffed. You just focus on getting her healthy enough to make the trip. I know Titan will fly in the best surgeons in the world, if ours aren’t adequate enough. Why has she not woken up?” I asked.
“I’m keeping her sedated for now. Her body needs the rest and with everything going on right now, she would be in too much pain and her anxiety would be through the roof.” He answered, looking at Titan with a worried expression.
“Doc, do you have any idea why the mate bond is affecting him like this so early? I mean they haven’t even marked each other and she’s been unconscious since just after they met.” I asked him.
“That’s something I can’t say for sure. I mean, it’s common knowledge that every mate bond is different. Some are stronger than others, some with different levels of energy flow. If I had to take a guess, I would say that it’s because it is formed between two extremely strong-willed people. I have a feeling when they do mark and commit to each other, it will probably be one of the strongest mate bonds in existence.” He said with a small smile and I was very inclined to agree with him. I didn’t know her, but I knew Titan better than anyone and if there is one thing I can say for my brother, it is that he would go to war with the devil himself to protect the ones he loves. I had seen him do it before.
“By the way doc, we need you to get a DNA cheek swab on her. We may have an idea of who she is.” I told him and his eyes went wide and something close to hope sparked in them.
“Right on it.” He answered.
