King Titan’s POV
Her little body goes limp in my arms. I loosen my grip immediately because I’m scared to death that I’m crushing her. I very easily could.
“We need to move quickly.” The Doctor says, and starts out of the cage. I cradle her still body in my arms, and feel another wave of rage wash over me at how she literally weighs nothing! I might as well be carrying a sheet! I follow the Doctor out while Ryker pauses to give the orders to put the Alpha and Beta in the cells and have one of our men guarding them at all times, then he is on my heels as we head up. My wolf is still howling that this is our mate. The doctor said she wasn’t a child but she can’t be an adult. Hell, she is almost too small to fit in my arms! My chest is too broad and I have to keep readjusting her so she doesn’t slip through, but I can’t hold her too tight and risk hurting her! Her bones are right at the surface of her skin and I feel like the lightest pressure will make them snap! As we are walking back through the guest room, Ryker yanks the blanket from the bed and helps me quickly wrap her in it to cover her nude form. She is swallowed in it but the added bulk makes carrying her a little easier. Once outside, we all pile into one of our suburbans with Ryker driving and the doctor in the passenger seat. I sit in the back and focus on her little heartbeat. It’s slow and weak and I clutch the blankets around her and try to mentally will it to keep beating! I had never heard a more beautiful and frightening sound in the world. That little beat was my world now and it was too close to stopping! Luckily, the hospital was just down the hill so we were there in just a minute. As soon as we walked in, the doctor started giving his staff orders without stopping and rushed us up the stairs saying the elevators would take too long. We went up 3 flights and came out to a white hallway. We went into the first room and nurses were already in there pulling out tubes and bandages. The doctor turned and reached for her and on instinct I backed up and growled ferociously, causing the nurses to jump and stare at me!
“Your highness, forgive me, but I have to get her to bed so we can start. She is in critical condition!” He said, backing up and gesturing towards the hospital bed in the middle of the room. I wanted to shout at him that, from the looks of it, she had been in critical condition for a long time and apparently he had known and done nothing!! However, this was not the time. She was the first priority. I laid her on the bed and backed up to get out of the way. The doctor told me I could leave the room and I informed him frostily that I would be staying right here. I still didn’t trust this piece of s**t but he seemed to be doing everything he could. I watched and felt my heart break 100 times over. I lost count of how many wounds, burns and bruises littered her skin. I watched as they stuck tube after tube into her connected to bags and breathing machines. I had spent my fair share of time in hospitals, thanks to my father, so I knew the most important thing would be to get her hydrated and her vitals stable. Ryker went into the hall to call the council and update them. One of my men informed me that some of the alpha’s soldiers had tried to force their way into the pack house and had to be neutralized. The commotion had gained the attention of the house staff and they were worried of a possible riot. I ordered them to dispose of the bodies and that Ryker was on his way with further instructions. I leaned my head out of the room just as Ryker was ending his call.
“Four councilmen and 10 additional soldiers will be here in the morning. I heard about the event at the pack house. What do you want me to do?” He asked.
“Take Forester and the five men who are not guarding the cells and round up the pack, search every building and have them go to the pack house. Then lock it down, no one leaves. Also, find the luna and beta female. I don’t know who we can trust right now, but until I do know I want everyone under surveillance.”
“What should I tell them as far as the reason for this?”
“Mostly the truth; their alpha is under official investigation and, as of now, so is the rest of the pack. When reinforcements arrive in the morning, we’ll start sorting things out. Also, get silver helmets on the alpha and beta until we can start wolfsbane injections to suppress their wolves. I don’t want them to mind link the pack and forming any plans.”
“The soldiers got the helmets on just after his men tried to infiltrate. Seems only 5 of his men actually tried to help, the rest simply gave up without a fight.” Ryker smirked. Hopefully more of his pack felt the same way. I turned back to look at the bed where the doctor and nurses were still working to stabilize her blood pressure.
“I’ll come back here as soon as I can. Keep me updated if anything changes with her.” Ryker said, slapping me on the back and heading out. I sat down in a chair in the corner of the room and, for the first time since I was a child, I prayed to a moon Goddess. I wasn’t even sure I believed in.
