I shook myself out of the memory I had became lost in. It felt so long ago but in reality had only been 6 months.
Needless to say they had never returned. And as my parents had predicted the balance had tipped.
The dark began winning the war. It was almost a total devastation.
White Fae where being hunted for their power and then killed.
The castle had already fallen and the dark fae had taken over.
Creatures of the night roamed the streets of the city freely feeding and hunting for sport. Women weren't safe anywhere.
If they where powerful they where captured for breeding and if not they where used and then killed or made into slave and servants.
The ones who did escape were hunted by the seekers who would hold them prisoner until they drained them of their magic and murdered them.
Myself, Nin, and her parents had stayed in our tree house for as long as we could.
The day we had to pack and where ready to leave members of the dark fae army happened upon our tree house. There was dozens of them. All in black cloaks with their faces covered. They were searching for whit fae for they were running out of power, and they had found us.
********FlashBack********
"Okay girls are you guys packed?" Piper Nins mom asked us.
"Yes mama we're ready." Nin replied.
"Great. When your father gets back from scouting the area we will leave." She informed us.
A few minutes later Linton came up the ladder rushing to pull it up behind him.
"Get the girls out of here Piper we have been discovered." He yelled as he gasped for air.
"What is going on?" I asked looking around. I grabbed the telescope we always used to survey the surrounding area. I gasped when I say dozens of cloaked figures headed out way.
"They can feel our magic. That's what they're after. Go Nin! Take Bre and your mom and I will hold them off!" Linton urged.
"But I don't wanna leave you guys." Nin cried.
"You must now go!" Piper grabbed Nin and pulled he to her chest hugging her tightly. Linton joined them and he reach for me pulling me in as well. We all hugged and cried for a few moments.
"Take this Nin. It's like Bre's! We will find you. Now go!" Piper ordered after slipping a fairy necklace the same as mine around Nins neck.
Linton made Nin and I use our escape route. We made our way through the tree canopy connected by rope bridges carefully constructed by our fathers. Then we ziplined down and took off through the jungle.
"Run and don't look back." Piper had told us both before kissing us goodbye.
We done as we were told. Our breathing was ragged and we stubble over rocks and fallen limbs. I looked behind us and two dark fae where closing in . I knew we wouldn't be able to outrun them and our magic was useless against there's.
I took my hands and blasted a tree causing it to fall in front of them. It woul buy us some time.
" Nin we have to split up. They're going to catch us. You go that way and I'll go this way. You don't stop for nothing and don't think twice about killing these fuckers." I gasped trying to catch my breath.
I hugged and kissed my best friend both of us crying. "I will find you Nin. No matter what I will find you." I told her before I took off as fast as I could through the forest.
"Don't look back!" I kept chanting in my head over and over.
I ran until my body gave out on me and I collapsed. It was now dark out and I was alone. My clothes where wet and my teeth where chattering.
The forest grew cold at night and hypothermia would set in soon if I don't do something. I search the forest until I found a cave . I was able to go deep enough inside that I was able to use my magic to start a small fire. I stripped off my clothes and laid them on the rocks to dry and pulled my blanket out of my backpack. It had been pure lick we were already leaving when the dark fae came. If not I wouldn't have had any of my things with me. That night I cried myself to sleep holding my fairy charm between my fingers rolled up in my fleece blanket.

I lived on my own for the next few months in the forest. Until the need for food became so pressing I had no choice but to wonder back into civilization.
My body could feed off my magic for a while but it drained me fast and I needed my magic for protection.
I had been shocked at the difference only ten months had made in Alkai City.
There was no more quaint little neighborhoods or parks. All the stores had been broke into and demolished. The streets and houses where all vacant. Screams and growls could be heard throughout the city. A looming fog spread through the streets and alleyways. They sky was dark and gray, even in the day. It was as if the world had been wiped clean of anything that resembled beauty or peace. There was no law or structure.
Dark Fae soldiers littered the streets searching for anyone that may be hiding from them. Cars where abandoned and houses vacated. It was as if I was standing in post apocalyptic destruction.
Vampires, Lycans, and werewolves fed freely from their victims and hunted them for sport.
White Fae had been wiped out, the only remaining where held captive by the Dragon King Alejandro or where in hiding like myself. We where being syphoned of our magic and disposed of, either becoming slaves to the dark side or being killed.
I slipped my hood over my head an tucked my long red curly hair underneath and made my way though the c*****e.
Being recognized as a girl alone in this hell wasn't something I wanted to do. I finally reach my house after two days of sneaking through the Alkai City.
It was still standing! Nin's home however, was absolutely demolished. I was terrified of going inside but to my relief it was vacant.
So, I hid during the day and stayed awake at night watching the stars from my makeshift hammock, since my old one was in the treehouse in the forest.
I managed to secure the house by boarding up all the entrances aside from the ones I would use if I needed to escape, and those where only accessible by me because they where hidden from the naked eye.
A basic spell my father had taught me.
I had also set up an alarm system that would alert me if anyone entered the house. Fishing line was pulled tightly across the bottom of the entrance and once broken, set of a silent alarm connected to my wrist watch. I had weapons hidden in every room of the house and my grab bag ready to go at a moments notice hidden in the backyard.
My father's satellite radio was my only link to what was going on in the world.
The voices spoke of demons, vampires, werewolves, lycans, dragons and dark fae. Most who where broadcasting where hidden away in bunkers in unknown locations.
They always spoke of the same 3 men along with King Alejandro and the dark Fae warriors.
The 3 men I had crushed on my entire life before the war began...
Nikolai VanWarren...
Brecclan Drago...
Luca Othanos...
They had been all over the sleezy tabloid Nin and I liked to read called Fairy Tales.
They spoke of the gruesome things these guys had done for the slightest disrespect or accident someone committed against them.
The various women they where seen with every night. Women threw themselves at them. Not that I could blame them. Nin and I used to speak about how gorgeous they were.
Only, at that time we didn't understand the evil that was hidden behind their beautiful faces. And from what the broadcasts where saying, they had highly amped it up since the war started.
Everyone was terrified of them, even more than before.
They spoke of an army they had been building, and that they where living in a part of the forest known as Silva Mortis (forest of death).
Deep inside Silva Mortis was an ancient castle called Arce Anima Perdita (castle of lost souls) in that no one dared to venture inside of.
No one aside from Nikolai, Brecclan, and Luca, apparently.
It seemed King Alejandro and Brecclan where building separate army's.
Everyone speculated that the prince was going to try and take over as King.
I couldn't believe Nin and I having sleepovers and looking through the magazines fawning over the three bad boys. They where our favorite subject...
