Chapter 4: Planning for the Trip
We continued to dialogue as often as possible, made all the more challenging by the fact that Friday and Saturday were the Muslim weekend, and I worked those days, having Sunday off. But Amir would be back to his classes on Sunday, as his classes were Sunday through Thursday. Sometimes we would talk early on a Friday or Saturday morning around his noon hour. But we emailed virtually every day. There were many tough work days when I would be looking for his latest “I love you” message to give me that little lift to get through the afternoon. Sometimes the messages were in English, sometimes in Spanish, sometimes a few words of French or Arabic that he would try to teach me. The Skype sessions became intense.
