Crown's Choice Part 1: The Prince's Decision The royal palace buzzed with tension as the final days of the marriage contest approached. The contestants had endured challenges, betrayals, and endless pressure, all hoping to become the future queen. Prince David stood in the palace garden, unable to ignore the strange feelings growing in his heart. Every time he was near Uju, the simple village girl who had entered the competition with nothing but dignity and courage, he felt a peace he could not explain. “I don't understand it,” David admitted. “When you're not around, everything feels wrong.” Uju smiled softly. “Maybe you're just getting used to me.” “No,” he replied. “It's more than that.” Unknown to many, not everyone in the palace was playing fair. Rumors spread through the halls. Some contestants relied on influence, manipulation, and secret alliances to gain an advantage. Others watched quietly, waiting for the truth to reveal itself. Amaka had begun noticing suspicious events. The poisoned food incident, missing jewelry, and unusual behavior surrounding the prince all pointed to something larger. “Things don't just happen in this palace,” she warned. Meanwhile, Prince David could no longer tolerate the endless competition. He marched into the king's chamber. “Father, end the contest,” he demanded. The king studied his son carefully. “You sound impatient.” “I've made my choice.” The king remained calm. “Choosing a wife is not the same as choosing a favorite meal. Marriage carries responsibility.” “And I am responsible enough to know what I want.” After a long silence, the king nodded. “Very well. The contest will end. But not in the way you expect.” Later that day, all the contestants gathered in the royal hall. “My son has made his decision,” the king announced. Excitement swept through the room. “However, you will not hear the result today.” Gasps echoed across the hall. “Tomorrow, you will return to your homes and wait. When the time is right, you will be called back for the final announcement.” Confusion filled the room. Why delay the result if the prince had already chosen? No one knew that the king was preparing a revelation that would shake the entire kingdom. Part 2: The Return Home The contestants returned to their various homes carrying uncertainty in their hearts. Uju's arrival was far from welcoming. Her aunt greeted her with a mocking smile. “So you're back already? They chased you out?” “No,” Uju replied calmly. “We were asked to return home and wait.” Her aunt laughed cruelly. “The prince has already chosen someone. You're wasting your time.” The words stung, but Uju refused to let bitterness take root. “Even if I lose, I won't stop being who I am.” Her aunt rolled her eyes. “Deep words won't make you queen.” Despite the insults, Uju quietly helped around the house, refusing to argue. Elsewhere, Vivian was furious. She had trusted promises from powerful people who claimed they could influence the prince's decision. “You lied to me,” she shouted. “Things changed,” came the nervous reply. “Because of that village girl?” “Maybe. Maybe not.” Vivian's confidence began to crack. For the first time, she realized that power and manipulation might not be enough. At the same time, strange conversations unfolded behind closed doors. Some people believed the prince's decision wasn't entirely his own. Others suspected secrets hidden beneath the surface of the contest. One thing was certain. The palace was hiding something. Days later, royal messengers arrived. The contestants were summoned back for the final announcement. As preparations began, the women dressed in magnificent gowns. Vivian wore pink. Amaka chose purple. Uju was dressed in elegant white and gold. When she looked at herself in the mirror, she barely recognized the reflection staring back. For the first time, she looked every bit like a queen. Yet she remained humble. Whatever happened, she had promised herself she would leave with her dignity intact. Part 3: The Truth Behind the Crown The grand hall overflowed with nobles, dignitaries, and royal guests. Everyone expected one thing. The king's announcement. The contestants stood in a line before the throne. The king rose slowly. “Many of you came expecting to learn the name of the future queen.” The room fell silent. “But before that happens, certain truths must be revealed.” Whispers spread through the crowd. “This contest was never about beauty. It was never about wealth. It was never about influence. It was always about character.” The contestants exchanged nervous glances. Then came the first shock. “The woman many of you knew as the Chief Maiden is actually my daughter, Princess Elizabeth.” The room erupted with disbelief. Before anyone could recover, the king continued. “My son and I planned this competition together.” Silence. “We hired another man to act as Prince David during much of the contest.” Gasps echoed throughout the hall. Every interaction, every challenge, and every temptation had been carefully designed to reveal the contestants' true nature. The king exposed the schemes one by one. Amaka's manipulations. Vivian's compromises. The secret plots against Uju. Nothing had escaped the palace's watchful eyes. Then the king turned toward Uju. “You arrived with almost nothing.” Uju lowered her gaze. “You were mocked, insulted, and betrayed. Yet you remained kind. You remained honest. You never allowed bitterness to change your heart.” Tears filled her eyes. “That is the mark of a queen.” The hall erupted in applause. The king smiled proudly. “Prince David, step forward.” The prince obeyed. “You made the right choice.” David walked toward Uju and took her hand. The crowd held its breath. “The future queen of this kingdom is Obianuju.” For a moment, Uju couldn't move. The poor village girl had won. Not because of beauty. Not because of power. Not because of influence. But because of her character. The king raised the royal crown high above his head. “May this kingdom always remember that power fades, beauty changes, and crowns pass from one head to another. But character lasts forever.” As thunderous applause filled the palace, Prince David smiled at the woman beside him. The contest was over. The crown had finally found the heart worthy of wearing it.
