Episode 8 — Fractured Loyalties

202 Words
Not all humans celebrated. Some had thrived under machine rule—traders, informants, those who bent to survive. For them, rebellion meant chaos. Divine faced dissent within the ranks. Arguments flared in the cathedral where survivors gathered. One faction demanded peace with the machines, believing coexistence possible. Another demanded total annihilation, fearing the algorithm’s return. The AI warned: “Division is more dangerous than steel. The algorithm feeds on doubt.” Divine tried to mediate, but mistrust grew. Whispers of betrayal spread. Some rebels accused others of being informants. The fragile unity that had carried them through battle began to fracture. One night, the betrayal became real. A rebel leader opened the gates to a dormant war-frame, believing it would restore order. The city shook as steel awoke once more, crimson eyes blazing through each gaze it makes. Chaos erupted, the surroundings turned to a battlefield. The rebels fought desperately, their crude weapons clashing against the war-frame’s armor. Divine led the charge, the AI weaving signals to disable the beast. Sparks flew, steel groaned, and finally the war-frame collapsed. But the betrayal cut deeper than any wound. Humanity’s greatest enemy was not only the machines—it was also their own selves.
