Chapter 8“Stay at Alton Park!” Sylvina exclaimed. “Are you crazed?” “No indeed,” her brother replied, “and quite frankly, Syl, it’s an invitation that people of social consequence yearn to receive.” “But not you!” Sylvina cried in tones of horror. “Not you, Clyde!” “You don’t suppose that Mr. Cuddington would have accepted for us both if he had thought there was any danger in it,” Clyde protested. “He is not so cork-brained as to run me into trouble with the Marquis deliberately and besides, if anyone is swaggering about like a peacock with two tails, it’s Cuddington.” “You mean he wants to go to Alton Park?” Sylvina asked. “Wants! That’s blowing off the froth!” her brother retorted. “He’s excited, elated, puffed up with pride, boasting about the invitation to whoever will listen.” “
