Rebel The summons came while I was still picking gravel out of my palms. Tamara delivered it with flat disapproval. The family required my presence at dinner. They would not allow her to bring me a tray so I could eat in the comfort and quiet of my own room in my pajamas. The family table. Tonight. Formal. “Eva’s brought someone to dinner,” Tamara said, working a comb through my wet hair with more care than my scalp required. “A man. She wants the family to meet him.” “And I’m family tonight.” I flexed my ruined hands and watched the split skin argue about it. “How nice to be remembered.” “They want you there so the new man sees the Alpha cherishes his family.” Her mouth thinned. “Even the ones he threw away.” She’d gotten very good this past week at saying the true thing out loud.
