“WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT the dog at the hotel,” Clovis groused as Kona dove on a bush and sent several birds squawking into the air. “It’s going to be hard to sneak up on anybody with her along.” Emma reached down and picked up the squirmy puppy, earning a thorough face wash for her troubles. “How much farther?” “The falls are about a quarter mile ahead of us. The cave is there.” “We’re not far from the hunters’ campsite are we?” Clovis asked. Alf shook his head. “It was another mile up the creek from the falls.” Ahead of them, Brita and Percy stopped, turning back. “The path is blocked here.” Alf had forgotten the rock slide he’d caused.
