I gave Sutton a more detailed version of the afternoon’s adventures on the drive, including my suspicions that big brother Harrison Moreno was the one behind our kidnapping, but not Elise’s murder. “That means Bradley Moreno’s men probably followed Elise to the marina,” he said, choosing a spot near the front of the hospital lot. “If she had arrived earlier, while you and JD and Harrison Moreno’s men were still there, it’s hard to say what the body count would have been.” Such speculation wasn’t helpful or healthy, at least for me. “I’m seeing JD first. Then I’ll get checked,” I said, getting out of the car. Sutton agreed, and we took the elevator to the third floor. JD’s room was recognizable by the officer standing guard outside. “Is that to keep JD in or everyone else out?” I asked.
