21 I lowered my knees, and JD slid around the wheel to make room for me out of sight in the cockpit. He’d been watching the parking lot while I’d been in woolgathering denial about our situation. Both Bad Guy cars crunched across the gravel and swung around to park. We eased our heads up out of the cockpit to watch their progress. Suddenly—with no warning—JD grabbed my arm and pulled me over the side of the boat. He didn’t throw me overboard so much as make a controlled drop, so there was no splash when I hit the water. JD did such a good job, I didn’t completely submerge, only going in up to my chin. That is, until he landed on me.
