My heart was pounding. Before I could stop myself, I swung at the man next to me, aiming for his groin. JD sidestepped and grabbed my arm after it connected with his upper thigh.
“Hey!” he said. “Easy.”
I yanked my arm from his, falling to my knees next to the truck in the process.
“You okay?” he asked.
“I need a minute,” I said, and leaned my forehead against the rough metal of the truck.
“You sure you’re okay?” he asked.
“Yeah, just …” Just a little flashback, nothing to look at here, people. Keep it moving. “Just exhausted.”
He waited, and when I stood up he held out his arm so I could take it. “It’s a little tricky if you don’t know where you’re going.”
