Chapter 05 : Quality time. Part I

« Hurry up, Alysanne! » I grumbled while the lady has been trying for thirty minutes to make a damn bun! I offered to do it for her, but she didn’t want to. Even though she is a perfectionist!
She finds flaws every time and she does it again! I don’t know if she wants her bun to be pulled in a different way.
« I’m almost there Aly, you’re distracting me! » she says as she tries to draw a new line in the middle of her head.
I wonder if I was like that when I was her age! I promised her yesterday that I would take her to the bookstore to find new comics or mangas, no matter how they call them if she stood up to Nina, and she did. Nina didn’t make it easy for me with this photo without her consent on social media.
Alysanne is not totally wrong, it was inappropriate on her part, but apart from that, she is irreproachable and I can’t afford to fire her when I need her to do my job, looking after her.
« Okay, my dear. You have five minutes to make that bun or I won’t take you to the bookstore anymore. »
She looks at me through the mirror and I let her know that I’m serious. I’m tired and I just want to go back to bed.
« What’s wrong? You don’t look well. I’d even say you cried the day before. » She said as she FINALLY tied her hair.
I sigh and draw closer to her and touch her wheelchair, ready to get her out of this room before I change my mind.
« I’m very well. Then, since when do you know when I am well or not? » I asked, curious.
She smiles and taps my hand.
« I always know when you’re not well, big sister. »
She throws it like it’s obvious. I smile wide before lowering myself to press my head against hers.
« You’re grown up, baby. » She smiles at me and then pushes my head out of the way and I go off in a big laugh.
« I’ve told you to stop being so affectionate to me. I’m not six anymore. And don’t do any "Alyanna" stuffs in front of my friends.
I raise my eyebrows and stare at her, curious.
« Alyanna » ?
« Hugs, hugs, love statements in front of people. You’re too embarrassing, seriously! »
My laughter increases and I lead us towards the living room, ready to go out.
Alysanne is in her “no hugging, no affection” period and that amuses me because when I don’t do it, she thinks something’s wrong. Okay, I may be a little too protective and affectionate with her, but first, it’s in my nature.
Second, we have no one left, no family. It’s normal especially after what happened with my parents that I cherish her as if I were going to lose her. I can be strict when it is necessary because we do not say yes to everything a child asks us.
« Even when you are fifteen, sixteen or forty years old, you will always be my baby. » I say to her before I walk through the door. For any answer, she just throws me a smile that I return to her.
« So you’re not going to tell me what made you sad? » Alysanne asks again when we walk through the door of the bookstore.
She kept bothering me with it all the way. That little one can be so stubborn when she wants to!
I don’t want to talk about it again. She’s not the only one who wants me to talk about Declan. Andrea, Makeda, Jodha, Hinata and Shirley each called me in turn to check on me and I said, “I’m here if you need to talk about what happened yesterday.”
I appreciate so much that everyone is worried about me, but I definitely don’t want to talk about it. I’d rather act like nothing happened. I probably won’t see him again, so...
« Stop insisting, young lady, I will not tell you anything. » I told her by pulling out his tongue and leading us to the youth section.
« What time do Soraya and Eva arrive? » I asked her to change the subject.
« They should be here by now. Maybe they... »
she does not finish her sentence that our eyes catch the two girls, rushing towards us.
They throw themselves into my arms and ignore Alysanne who raises her eyes.
« Alyanna! The best big sister in the world! » Said Soraya.
I am very close to Soraya and Eva, they are like two little sisters for me. Eva is Andrea’s sister, so I’ve known her since she was a baby. My gaze meets that of his sister sitting on the other side of the shelf, nodding.
« It’s time for me to leave the trio together and join my friend who is waiting for me on the other side. »
I said pointing the finger at Andrea and letting them explore the bookstore. I expect to leave with a pile of comics and novels, which means that I will have to expand Alysanne’s library.
I had planned to add a room exclusively for her and her books as a birthday gift. I just need to find time to start preparing. Time is running out.
One day they are five years old and the next day, thirteen. I have grown older too, but I remember my teenage year as if it were yesterday, but I will be twenty-six in a month.
The funny thing is that sometimes people think I’m nineteen because of my physique. I always wonder what I will do for my thirties, but I have three years to decide.
Andrea smiles at me as I get closer and I can already predict what our conversation will be about.
« What’s that makes you smile, Andrea Valdez? »
I asked innocently, sitting next to her and taking the book she was reading. "Unfinished love" sounds like a sad novel to me," I say as I read the summary.
« It is. » she said, taking the book from my hands and laying her hand on her cheek, waiting for something.
I smile at her before shrugging my shoulders. Andrea has a strong temper. She is the kind of woman who does not break down before anything or anyone and who does not hesitate to say what she thinks.
This strong temperament earned her strong criticism from the male and female gentry. It always ended badly with her ex-boyfriends. The truth is that behind this wall, Andrea is the nicest of all the Warriors.
« I told you I was fine. I don’t care if Declan’s back and he can go to hell, I don’t care! » i say confidently, but I can see in her eyes that she does not believe me for a second.
‘How can she lie to someone who knows us so well and has seen this relationship grow?’
Of course, she doesn’t believe a word.
« Try harder, Alyanna. Tell me what you’re gonna to do if he wants to see you again. »
