The Alpha’s Surprising Mate

Chapter Ten

Gabriel’s P.O.V

I was sitting in my office finishing up an email to Cynthia’s very pissed off father when Jason came in and flopped down onto a chair across from me.

“So, why didn’t you tell me Lilliana was your mate?” He asked with his eyebrow raised.

I looked at him for a moment before responding, I technically didn’t have to tell him anything but he was my best friend after all.

“Honestly? I don’t even know. My minds just been all over the place lately. I was shocked to find my mate but then to realize she was a slave? I admit I was a bit embarrassed at first but after talking with her I found out she’s actually of Alpha blood.” I responded

“Alpha blood?! What? How was she made to be a slave if she’s of Alpha blood?” He asked perplexed.

“It’s a long story, do you have some time?” I asked with a chuckle.

“You know I do, spill!”

I sat there for the next two hours explaining everything to him. When I was finished he sat there dumbfounded.

“Man, that’s intense. That poor girl!” He stated.

“Don’t say anything to her about it, and do NOT show her any sympathy. I got a little snapped at for that.” I smiled. My Lily was fierce. I just needed to help her come out of her shell.

“Duly noted! Not going to say a word.” He said laughing. “I did notice she got her wolf though, she was pretty bad ass at training today. Poor Genny couldn’t keep up and told her she needs a new partner.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at that, Freya sure was a handful so I could only imagine how she was on the training field.

“Lilliana actually asked me if I could find her another sparring partner so I told her I would train with her a bit tomorrow to see how good she is.” My beta said eyeing me cautiously.

Ace let out a growl. To think of another man’s hands on our mate made our blood boil but I trusted Jason with my life and I knew he wouldn’t hurt her or get too hands on with her.

Jason shrunk back into the chair with his hands up “listen, if you don’t want me to just say the word and I’ll try and find another female who she can practice with but it will be hard until I know what level she’s at.”

“It’s fine, you can train with her tomorrow and find out.” I said trying not to sound like a jealous ass.

Jason looked at me with a knowing smile. “Don’t worry man, I’ll make sure she’s okay.” He said as he got up to leave.

“Thanks Jay, I appreciate it more than you know.”

Lilliana’s P.O.V

Agnes insisted on making my favourite meal for dinner due to it being my birthday. It was a tough decision because there were so many amazing things she’s made that I’ve fallen in love with but I finally decided on her delicious beef roast, garlic mashed potatoes, gravy with vegetables.

We finish getting dinner ready and put it out for everyone to eat. I sat down with Genny to have dinner, we were talking about training and a bunch of other things when I had a weird feeling buzzing through me. I stopped talking and started panting.

“Freya? What’s happening to me?”

“We must shift.”

“I thought we didn’t shift until it was late?”

“Not with our kind.”

“What do you mean our kind?”

“You will soon understand. Get out of here now.”

I abruptly stood up causing Genny to jump and my chair to fall back which resulted in some stares from curious pack members.

“Lilliana?!“ Genny said startled. “What’s wrong, are you okay?”

“Sorry. Have to go.” I said then sprinted out of the room.

“Get to the forest!” I barely heard Freya say as I felt my body getting hot and my skin feeling too tight.

“Lily!” I heard Gabriel’s voice bellow out behind me. I couldn’t stop, I needed to go.

I made it into a little clearing in the forest when I dropped to my hands and knees. My body felt like it was on fire. I screamed in pain as I felt my bones beginning to break and rotate around.

“Let me take it from here Lily. I can handle the pain.”

Without another word I let Freya completely take over.

Gabriel’s P.O.V

I had just walked in to have dinner when I saw Lily jump out of her chair. She looked very distraught. She ran out of the room before I could reach her.

“She smells different, her wolf is coming!” Ace said.

“What do you mean her wolf is coming? That doesn’t happen until later tonight.”

“I don’t know, we need to go to her. We must help her!”

I ran out the door after her and called out to her but she must not have heard. She ran for the forest and I followed. When I caught up she was on her hands and knees and screaming out in pain.

I have watched many people shift for the first time but this one seemed much more strenuous and painful, the snapping sounds were much louder than usual.

She seemed to quiet a bit so I went to her and rubbed her back to help comfort her when her head snapped up to me revealing beautiful blue eyes. Freya.

“Gabriel,” her voice purred. “Please stand aside. This will take only a moment.”

As requested I stepped back and let Freya finish their shift.

To say I was shocked when I saw her wolf form standing before me would be an understatement. Freya was one of the most beautiful wolves I have ever seen. Not only was my mate of Alpha blood but she is a very rare wolf. The last of her kind if I am correct.

We would need to speak with the elders as soon as possible but that will have to wait, for tonight I plan to mate and mark my mate if things go as planned. First we might go for a run together depending how things go, especially when I explain to her just how special she truly is.
