The Ultimate Ultimatum

825 Words
The revelation of the mole, the unsettling suspicion that Brenda and Liam were either active informants or unknowingly manipulated pawns, cast a new, chilling light on the agency’s power. But even that pale in comparison to the horror that was about to unfold. Fresh from their clandestine meeting, Faye and Yuna were still reeling from the discovery of the inside threat when the agency played their most devastating card yet. They didn’t wait long. Within 48 hours of Yuna’s covert return, a summons arrived, not just for Yuna, but for her parents as well, to a "critical family meeting" at the agency's corporate headquarters. It was an unmistakable sign that the gloves were truly off. Yuna walked into the lavish, intimidating boardroom, her parents rigid with fear beside her. Arthur Vance, her manager, and Ms. Albright, the head lawyer, sat across from them, their faces grim, their posture unyielding. This time, there were no veiled threats, no subtle insinuations. Ms. Albright's voice was a cold, sharp blade. "Ms. Sandoval," she began, her eyes like chips of ice, "your recent public statement at your premiere was… ill-advised. It has caused significant damage to your carefully curated image and, by extension, to the investments we have made in your career. We have, however, devised a solution. A path forward for you, and for your family, to mitigate this unfortunate turn of events." Yuna’s heart pounded against her ribs. She braced herself, but nothing could have prepared her for what came next. "Tomorrow morning, at 9 AM sharp, we will hold a press conference," Arthur Vance interjected, his voice flat, devoid of the paternal charm he once used to ensnare young talent. "You will stand before the media, and you will read the statement we have prepared for you. It's concise, to the point, and will clear up all this… confusion." A thick, sealed envelope was slid across the polished table towards Yuna. Her hands trembled as she opened it, pulling out a single, stark white sheet of paper. As she read the words, a sickening wave of nausea washed over her. The statement wasn't just a retraction. It was a vicious, soul-crushing betrayal. It claimed that Faye Carlson had been "an overly possessive and manipulative influence," who had "exploited Yuna's youth and naiveté" to force her into a "toxic and unwanted relationship." It painted Faye as an aggressive, unstable older woman who had preyed on Yuna, and that Yuna, now free from Faye's control, was deeply regretful and focused solely on her career and healing. The words were a direct assault on Faye’s character, designed to destroy not just her reputation, but her very essence. Yuna gasped, tears blurring the text. "No! I can't say this! This is a lie! Faye never—" Ms. Albright cut her off, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "You will say every word, Ms. Sandoval. And you will make it believable. Because if you do not," she leaned forward, her eyes locking onto Yuna's, "we will not only sue you for every penny you have, for every penny you are contractually obligated to earn, but we will personally ensure that Faye Carlson's entire life is utterly ruined. Her clothing business? We will use every legal and financial means at our disposal to dismantle it, piece by piece. We will spread rumors among her suppliers, sabotage her distribution, buy out her competitors and crush her. We will ensure she loses everything. Her homes, her savings, her reputation, her last shred of dignity. She will never work in this industry, or any industry, ever again. She will be a pariah, a pauper, a cautionary tale. And it will be your fault, Ms. Sandoval." Yuna's parents, who had remained stunned and silent, finally reacted. Her mother burst into tears, clutching her father’s arm. "Yuna, no! You can't let them do that to her! You can't lose everything!" The weight of their fear, coupled with the monstrous threat against Faye, crushed Yuna. She looked from the monstrous words on the page to the cold, unfeeling faces of the agency executives, then to the terrified, pleading eyes of her parents. They weren't just threatening her; they were threatening Faye's very existence, the woman she loved more than anything. This wasn't just her career on the line; it was Faye's entire world. And she, Yuna, was the only one who could stop it. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed in a vice. The lie was vile, an assault on everything she held sacred, but the alternative was Faye's utter destruction. She was trapped. Utterly, terribly trapped. All she could do was nod, a single tear escaping her eye as the bitter taste of betrayal filled her mouth. The decision was made. The ultimate ultimatum had been delivered, and Yuna had no choice but to accept. The agency had found her absolute breaking point, and now, they would use it to break Faye too.
