OUR HISTORIES

NIC'S POV "Who's the Senior Elder?" I stuttered. "The Senior Elder? See? That's why you need to know your histories. Every werewolf knows about the Senior Elder, that's like the birthmark of all werewolves." Alima taunted. "So... Who's the Senior Elder?" I repeated. "The Senior Elder is from the bloodline of the first five pure blood werewolves." Alima explained. "Pure blood? Senior Elder? What the hell does that mean?" Iris asked now being more intrigued. "Alright, in ancient times..." "In ancient times?" Iris mocked. She never believe ancient stories, neither do I but Alima had me at Senior Elder. "Continue mom." I insisted. "Fine, in ancient times, the werewolves were cursed humans who lived as wolves in the mountains. They hunt other animals for food, eating fresh blood and they couldn't even build huts to sleep. And so five elders, went to the mountain to beg the sorceress who placed the curse on them to have mercy and reverse the curse. They were persistent, and stayed up there for months. And then finally, the white sorceress appeared and decided to reduce their punishment. They can go back to their human form and live peacefully with the humans. But if for any reason, they kill someone, they'd still maintain their human form but once a month..." "During the full moon." Iris completed "Yes, during the full moon. They'd go through painful transformation back to their beast form. A werewolf who has unsealed the curse can turn at will but, during the full moon, it's the beast that is in control, breaking every human bone in his host's body as he emerges. And this is the curse that has been passed down from generation to generation." Alima narrated, ending her story. "But you didn't explain the deal with the Senior Elder." I said, drawing her attention back to our main topic. "That's right! The Original Senior Elders. They were five in number. Elder Vilamont, Elder Azrio, Elder Evlosen, Elder Itrifus and Elder Etoranel. The white sorceress blessed them to be stronger than the other wolves for their sincerity and care for the rest of their kind. They became the leaders of the werewolves, the first Alphas. that is, the pure alphas. And although The Senior Elders weren't as pure as humans, they weren't as filthy as the other wolves either, so they couldn't be killed by other wolves. "Does that mean they were immortals?" Iris asked excited "No! They were not immortals, they can die of old age and can also be killed, but only a Senior Elder could kill his kind. But when he does, he'll become just as filthy as the rest and then can be killed by other wolves." She narrates. "So did they all grow old and die?" I asked impatiently. "What's going on Nic? You never liked ancient stories, what's up with you today?" Alima joked. But if only she knew the truth. "Anyways, most of the Senior Elders never grew old. They had all these powers, and they became greedy. They were now humans again but still stronger than humans and so they built their own community. But there can't be five leaders in just one community right? So their were disagreements which led to fights and wars that involved even the other wolves and three of them ended up dying. The remaining two, Elder Vilamont and Elder Azrio started unifying the wolves. Elder Azrio had a son and it turns out, that his son is also blessed like him, so powerful, that at the age of five, no adult werewolf could defeat him. But as the son grew tall and strong, Azrio grew weak and feeble. And finally, after Azrio's son counted one hundred and twenty-one full moons, Azrio died. To honour his partners, Elder Vilamont completely unified the wolves who were shared to the forty regions of Azevitet few moons later. He Also build Viduela the capital and number one region as his home. He met his mate and they had a son. But just like Azrio, as Vilamont's son grew tall and strong, so did Vilamont grow weak and feeble. But Azrio's son out of spite that his father died building the wolves but he got nothing, decided to kill Vilamont's son for vengeance. After which Vilamont who was already close to death, recovered immediately. And then the saying 'a life for a life' came into existence. Azrio had exchanged his life for his son's and Vilamont would have done same if his son hadn't died. As for Azrio's son, he took the life of his kind, and so he became weak enough to be killed by other werewolves. After his death, Vilamont became the only one of his kind. He was so powerful and yet ruled with mercy and protected the werewolves. He lived for many years without a child, knowing that if he had one, he'll die. But he wanted a home and so he had a son again. And as his son grew older, Vilamont grew weaker until he had another child, and then suddenly, he was well again. "He didn't die?" Iris asked. "Nope, he lived for so many moons and died a very old man." "But why didn't he die? Didn't he exchange his life for his children's?" Iris added. "No he didn't. It's a life for a life. He had two so his was spared. His children grew up and also had children. Whoever had only one child died and the rest continued. The more the family tree grew wider, the more they killed themselves for power and get killed by the lower wolves." "But why would they kill themselves? They're family?" My naive twelve year old sister asked. "Honey, some families don't consider themselves family. Even now, families fight and kill each other over power and money." "So how many Senior Elder's are left?" I finally asked. "Just one." Alima replied, sending shock waves through my body. "One?" I asked surprised, knowing that my mother definitely called me a Senior Elder. Or was she mistaken? "The last family was killed off over thirty years ago by now Alpha Fecklon. He used the younger son to kill his brother for inheritance and the father killed the younger son out of anger. A Senior Elder that kills his kind becomes weak, and so elder Fecklon was able to kill the father, becoming the first Alpha of Viduela that wasn't a pure Alpha. Fecklon killed the last Senior Elder, but he spared Camrial, his Luna. Rumour has it that she must have been pregnant when she fled Viduela and then she had a son. And he's the one who imprinted on Cecelia." Imprinted on Cecelia? You said this happened thirty something years ago. Does that mean a thirty something years old alpha imprinted on her, isn't he too old for her?" Iris exclaimed but I was too busy calculating one hundred and twenty full moons. "She said she met him at her college party, that's all she could remember. I'm guessing he's a professor there, because he can't be a student at that ag..." "That's ten years." I voiced out. "Ten years? What are you talking about?" Alima asked "It means a Senior Elder can't live over ten years before exchanging his life for his child." I clarified "Yes that's correct." Alima replied, making me go silent with teary eyes. Now I remember. During the 'welcome to campus' party, the girl that came with Kalib, the one that until today was always found next to him. The girl I talked to at the bar that night and the one in whose back that tattoo appeared, that was Cece, Cecelia Rufus! The mind link between two mates, that's why we were always drawn to each other, the reason why I could feel her all the time. That bastard Fecklon was wrong. The Last Senior Elder, that wasn't the husband, it was the wife Camriel aka Victoria my mother. And the last Senior Elder they're searching for, he's not in his thirties, he's just twenty two. And his name is Nicholas f*****g Bryant. Does that mean I killed my own mother? . To be Continued...
