Episode 6

1923 Words
Someone knocked on the door and told our coach that they would be having a meeting with the principal. Ms. Eve bid us goodbye and asked us what to do before we arrived at the meeting. And it was to choose a club President before we went home. Yes! I thought. This is my time to excuse myself since Ms. Eve wasn’t around. Inside of my head, I let out a donkey laugh because I’m so lucky!  Clearing my throat, I looked around and saw that everyone was minding their own business. This is it, Heather. Sneak out, now! I tiptoed and started to walk in the back. There was a door, so I think that’s the other exit door. I just need to go there without anyone noticing my presence.  I sighed when I turned the door knob and plastered a wicked grin on my face before turning myself inside to another room –  Wait, this isn’t a room. It’s the bathroom, you i***t!  I stomped my feet on the tiled floor because of my stupidity. I guess there’s only one way to get out of here, huh. The only exit door is the door where we entered the room. Yeah, the entrance. How am I going to sneak out when everybody sees the person who will get out?! Ugh, this is so frustrating.  I raised my hands to pray as I looked up at the ceiling."Please Lord, just let me get off the hook today, please? Please? I’m sick of the embarrassment and misfortunes of my life! Please? Can you please send your Holy Spirits to this room and get me out of here, peacefully? Oh? Please? " I murmured to myself, just then someone kicked the door that made me jump on the floor. Oh damn it, I thought my heart literally went down.  "Oh? Were you the one who just challenged Jennie? " A girl in pigtails said. She looks fashionable because of too many colors showing off on her body. And… believe me, she looks like one of those sidekicks of every antagonist in the drama or books.  "Uh, yeah? I think so… " Damn it, no way in hell. You’re stuttering again, Heather! Oh no, that's a terrible move. "The hell with your look," she said and laughed, mocking me. "Are you afraid of me?" she asked. Was my face so transparent? She laughs again, this time, I know it’s full of sarcasm. "You look like I just bit you." Oh no, do I look like one? She continued. "How much more…" she suddenly steps forward to me with those dagger eyes of hers and I keep stepping back. "When will you face the real queen?" she whispered and looked at me pathetically.  Queen? "I don’t know what you’re saying…" I whispered back and looked at the side. I couldn’t stand her dagger eyes. "Yeah, you do. You don’t seem like the type of person who has an interest in the higher ups. " I think she was referring the higher ups to the popular students in school.  I heard her sigh as she finally put some space between us."Well, let me give you a quick background so that you’ll have the chance to back out from the candidates for Journalism President."  She went to the sink and washed her hands. I saw her doing that elegantly in the mirror. She fixed herself first and looked back at me in the mirror. "Jennie Han. The one you challenged a while ago, is one of the top students in school. She’s Korean but a citizen of America. You won’t have the chance to beat her. " As if I really wanted to beat her. Tch, I just say it out loud because I think that’s fair and just for every member of the club. Maybe someone in the room wanted to say that too, but lacked confidence because of the idea that no one would support him/her.  "Why do you think so?" I asked cautiously.  She smirked. "Why do I think so? Oh, I’m afraid everyone thinks the same as me. She’s always been the club President every year. You don’t know it because you’re a newbie. I wonder what Ms. Eve saw something special about you when, in fact, you don’t seem like a person who has skill at writing. " I clenched my fist because of the insult. What? This girl doesn’t know me. How could she judge a person whom she doesn’t even know?  She continued. "Jennie Han," she whispered the name like it’s very holy. "is the club President we should have, sis. I’m pretty sure she will never make you feel disappointed, "she continued. I couldn't stop myself from responding."What if I tell you I’m already disappointed in her?" She pouted her mouth sarcastically. "Aww, what made you feel disappointed in her?" "You." I answered, straight into her eyes. She looks confused now. Her forehead furrowed, "What?" she exhaled. "Having you as one of her apprentices made me feel disappointed in her. Birds flock to the same feather. I bet she also got that nasty attitude of yours. " Oh my God, I can’t believe I said that without stuttering a word!  She looks insulted and walks out in front of my face.  That was my cue to sigh deeply because I realized I was holding back my breathing.Who? That was so exciting! I want to die laughing every time I see her awe-inspiring face.Smiling, I went to the sink and washed my hands. Just when a loud ringing of my phone surrounded the place. It was Blake.  My smile widens and I get my airpods in the pocket of my skirt and plug them in my ears. "Wazzup!" I said hyperly. He must’ve noticed it because he asked, "What’s up, Heather! You having a good time there in school? " "You could tell. You see, "I whispered and looked at myself in the mirror. Fixing my hair and hiding the airpods plugged in my ears, I continued, "I have slain an enemy!"  "I don’t think you’re playing mobile legends. That’s not your forte. " "Oh come on, my brother plays that game like crazy. I’ve heard it all the way downstairs from his room. I’m sick of it, you know. " He chuckles softly. "So who’s this enemy you are referring to? Care to share it with me, my lady? " I rolled my eyes because they calling me ‘my lady’.  God, Blake! Stop fluttering my heart!  Biting my lips, I answered him. "Well, just a member of the Journalism club."  "Journalism Club? That’s new. "I thought you didn't like writing." I heaved a deep sigh. "I know right," I said, pouting. "You know this is partially your fault too." He chuckled again. "Wow! Why is that, huh? From my perspective, I just lend you a hand for your essay. " "It’s your fault for being a perfect guy! I didn’t know you could knock out an essay, too. " "Told ya ’I’m not a perfect guy. You see, no one’s perfect. " Aside from being perfect, he’s also very humble. Who will not fall in love with this guy? I bet every girl in his school will kneel in front of him. How lucky they are! They would see Blake’s face.  Side fact: I didn’t see Blake’s face. But my gut is telling me he’s handsome. His voice is handsome, so I think it goes with the face too.  "Where are you now? Are you on your way home? Keep safe. " He always says this to me. And I’m not getting used to it. "Not yet. I’m still having trouble how to get out of this freaking room. " "Huh?Why? Did something happen and you stuck? " "No, it’s not what you think. I mean…I’m having trouble how to sneak out of the meeting. It’s about picking a club President in the Journalism club. And do you know that I was nominated to be the President?! Ugh! Little did they know it wasn’t me who wrote that damn essay. You see, my literature teacher is the coach of this club and she included me in the list of nominees – " And I was blabbering again to him about what happened. I puffed air. "So that’s what happened. care to share any ideas on how to get away from this mess? " "Hmmm, let me think." He answered. I went out of the bathroom and went to my seat. When I sat down, a pair of eyes locked on mine.I think this is Jennie Han because she looks Korean. She has these cat eyes that look so intimidating that you just want to crawl out of the bed and hide if you don’t want to be bitten. Anyway, she called me, and I was in front of her in a matter of seconds.Wait, just when did my feet start to walk? Was I hypnotized by her eyes? "You wanted to challenge me right?" She asked in a cool tone. I didn’t have the chance to answer because she nodded right away. "Kol. I’ll give you a chance. " She then sat in the chair, ready for the nomination to be Journalism President. If I’m not mistaken, there were four of us mentioned by Ms. Eve when she was still around. But how come it’s only two of us? There are only two chairs prepared in front. When I looked around, I saw the girl who approached me in the bathroom. Her arms were swung on the two girls who looked uncomfortable in their positions. They didn’t have the choice to refuse, I think. These bullies… I clenched my fist and broke our contact before staring at Jennie who was now preparing a pen and paper on her desk. She looks up at me. "What are you staring at? Sit, "she commanded at me and I don’t know why I’m acting like a robot and doing what she just told me. Damn it.  "Heather? What’s going on? " Surprisingly, I forgot about Blake, who was still in the other line. Oh my God! Don’t tell me he heard all of that? Oh my God! I should’ve ended the call right away!  Blake cuts off my thoughts. "Are they bullying you?"  Involuntarily, I shook my head without minding the stares of the members. He continued. "Sounds like it. Don’t be afraid. You have me. Okay, just do what I’ll say. Got it? "  "What do you mean?" I whispered to myself.  "Shhh, don’t talk. I’ll try to decode what’s going on. "
