Turannos
An American built Bell helicopter crossed over the azure waters of the Aegean bringing Palestinians, Abbas Jamil and Yusuf Tanura to Turannos Kariakos’ private island. Departing from Crete, the helicopter hovered briefly over a cove lined with fishing boats. It presented a picturesque photo as the air was still and the area seemed abandoned. The pilot revved the engine, accelerating the rotors, ascending the whirly-bird. The fishing village retreated as they flew over open water. Minutes later an emerald mound came into view, and as they approached the island they saw a villa perched on a cliff top surrounded by pines. Below, a narrow strip of white sand formed a beach.
