The Senator answered the phone. It was Jamie calling from the office.
“What are you doing there? I thought you were going to Madison for the holidays?”
“My plane leaves in two hours. I stopped by the office to pick something up and thought I’d play back the messages. They’re garbled. I talked with Ted. He said it could be a bad tape, but more likely the problem was the recording head. What do you want me to do?”
“Let’s replace them. Want me to call Ted?”
“I’ve got time. I’ll let you know if I can’t reach him. Replacing them is a good idea.”
“I think so. We can’t chance missing messages. How many did we lose?”
