Aria:
Hands moved over my body, slow, deliberate, burning.
My back arched instinctively, pressing into the chest of a stranger whose mouth moved over mine like he'd been dying of thirst.
Hot, fiery, sensual.
Every kiss lit something beneath my skin, something primal, something dangerous.
My eyes fluttered open, and all I could see was darkness and then I looked over and found a man lying next to me, holding onto my waist like a lifeline.
The memories came flooding back.
Last night.
Dax and Lila’s betrayal and then me at the bar snd then…
I had met my mate. I glanced back at the beautiful man holding onto me.
He was the man that had saved me at the bar from those creeps last night.
I had kissed him and one thing had led to another and we were in his hotel.
I could still feel his body on mine. He'd made me forget how heartbroken I was last night.
I bent down and kissed his cheeks
He stirred but didn't wake up.
Good.
I had to leave and go back to work or the head maid would have a fit.
I couldn't afford for my salary to be slashed this time.
Now that I was no longer going to be with Dax, I had to save up as much as I could to go to college. I had missed out on too many things in my life all because I was blind.
Carefully, I removed the stranger's hand from my body. He groaned but didn't wake up.
Without wasting any more time, I picked up my clothes from the ground and put them on, blushing profusely at what had them on the floor in the first place.
I picked up my phone and wallet, the only thing I had brought with me to the bar and made it out of the room but not before looking at the sleeping god one more time before leaving.
I was already half way home when I realized that I should have written my number or something with my mate.
I thought about going back but I was already late for work. Plus I was gone all day yesterday and I was responsible for making pastries for the arrival of the Alpha.
I'd just have to go back later.
I ran the rest of the way back to the pack.
I immediately slipped into the kitchen, thankfully only a handful of maids were awake.
It was only 9;45am anyway.
“Aria !” Eve called from behind.
I froze and slowly turned to find her glaring daggers at me.
“Hey, Lilly. How are you doing?”
Her eyes narrowed. She grabbed me and dragged me into the store house, locking the door behind her.
I sneezed as the smell of flour hit my nostrils.
“Where the hell have you been?”
She glared at me.
“Here. I have been here all day.”
“Don't give me that crap. I had to cover for you all f*****g day.”
She glared.
I sighed, knowing I had to come clean.
“Fine. I left the pack house last night.”
“And why the hell did you do that?” She asked.
“Because…” I sighed. “I caught my boyfriend in bed with another woman.”
“Your boyfriend? You don't have a boyfriend, Aria . What are you talking about?”
“I do or did. I just didn't tell you.”
A hurt look crossed her face and I felt horrible.
“I'm sorry I didn't tell you but I couldn't. He said not to.”
“And now he's broken your heart,” she spat.”
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make it works.” She apologized when she saw the look on my face.
“It's okay. I deserved that.”
“So, who is this bastard and when do I get to beat the crap out of him?” She asked..
*Never. You'd be fired if you did.”
She frowned.
“Who are we talking about here?”
“It's Dax. Beta Dax or soon to be.”
Eve's eyes widened in shock.
“You are joking.”
I shook my head.
“I can't believe this.” she said.
“I mean I can. You're beautiful. I just… I didn't think he'd go for you. He's an asshole and a little stupid if you ask me.”
I chuckled, even though I was still sad.
“You don't look so unhappy anymore though.”
“Yeah,it's because I met…”
“Eve!” A familiar voice called from outside the door.
The head maid, Agatha.
“s**t! We gotta go.” Eve said.
I nodded.
“We'll talk about this later and I'm definitely still beating his ass.”
I chuckled, feeling grateful for her support.
She said and then left, disappearing into the kitchen.
I spent a couple more minutes before leaving the store room to prepare the pastries I was in charge of.
Two hours later of kneeding dough and making batter, the scent of warm vanilla and cinnamon filled the kitchen, wrapping around me like a comforting hug. Baking had always been my escape, a moment whee the world went quiet and I could just breathe. But today, even the scent of freshly baked croissants couldn't stop my thoughts from drifting back to him.
The way his fingers had traild down my spine. The way his eyes had looked at me like I was something rare. Desired. Wanted.
I sighed, brushing flour off my hands as I slid the last tray into the oven. I didn't even know his name. And now, I want sure I would ever see him again.
Not if you don't hurry up and go back to his hotel.
My wolf, Sally said.
She was right.
“Aria !” Lila, my step sister's voice called from the kitchen entrance, clearly angry.
I glanced back at her in confusion.
What did she want now?
Had she not humiliated me enough?
“Yes,”
“You little thief! Where are my shoes?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“I know you stole it. I can't find them.”
All the activities in the kitchen stopped and all eyes turned to catch the commotion.
“I didn't take anything from you, Lila.” I said, trying not to pounce on her.
After all she'd done, she still had the audacity to accuse me of stealing. That was the height of it.
“Yes you did, admit it.” she spat, pointing an accusing finger at me.
“Why would I steal your shoes?”
She laughed coyly. “Because I took your man from you. You were jealous and wanted to pay me back.”
“What is going on here?” Dax appeared from nowhere.
“Honey, tell this maid to give me back my shoes. She stole them.”
“I didn't steal her shoes.” I defended myself.
“Then you wouldn't mind her searching your room then?” Dax asked, a sky smile on his face.
“I didn't take her shoes!” I said again.
“Well, let the guards determine that. Go check her room.”
“This is unbelievable.”
I let out a humorless laugh.
“We found it!” The guard returned five minutes later.
My eyes widened.
“What? That's impossible!”
“Oh, really? Because that looks like my shoes.”
“I didn't put that in my room.” I glanced at Dax, waiting for him to come to my defense.
“Sounds like you did. You are fired.”
“What?” Eve's voice came from the entrance.
Everyone turned to look at her then turned to look at me again.
“Yes, you're fired. I can't have a thief in the pack house especially since the Aloha will be arriving soon.” Dax said, his voice cold and unfeeling.
I could hardly believe my ears.
“No, that's not fair. I didn't take anything… I swear I didn't.”
“Guards throw her out,”
“No,” I moved away from them but the caught me.
They dragged me out, my screams falling on deaf ears as Dax and Lila watched with smug satisfaction. Tears stung my eyes, not just from the pain but from the betrayal.
The guards hurled me forward, and I braced myself for the hard ground, but I never hit it.
Strong arms caught me mid-fall, and the scent that engulfed me was unmistakable. My heart lurched.
Him.
"What the hell is going on here?" his voice thundered, deep and commanding.
Gasps ripped through the crowd as they took in the man holding me protectively against his chest.
Dax's face went pale.
"Alpha..." He stammered, lowering his head in an immediate bow.
I blinked up at my mysterious stranger, realization crashing into me like a wave.
He wasn't just my mate
He was the new Alpha
And I had just been thrown out of the pack house for stealing.
