Chapter 4

Aria: I stared up at the beautiful man I had slept with last night and was beyond shocked. He was my mate. The Alpha was my mate. I couldn't wrap my mind around it. What were the odds? Just when I thought I'd probably never see him again and here he was claiming me as his mate I wasn't sure what to think or how to process this at all. “Come on,” he said and carried me bridal style and walked past everyone including my sister who was staring at me with contempt. I felt awkward in his arms. Like I didn't belong there. Which was funny because just last night I had been screaming his name like a banshee as he pleasured me like he was born to. “Are you okay?” He asked. I nodded, unsure what my voice would sound like if I spoke. “I just don't understand…why did you not tell me who you really were last night?” “We were a little too busy, that's why,” He said and I swear I saw a glint in his eyes. I blushed a deep crimson. “Come with me,” he murmured, pulling me towards the grand stairs that had been decorated with gold and black balloons and the same color ribbons. We got to his room and he pulled me in as gently as possible. It was beautiful. I had cleaned this room up when the workers were done decorating. A huge king size bed laid in the middle of the room. Stack of different size pillows were arranged on top of each other The wooden mahogany bedframe gave the place an ancient medieval vibe that calmed me. I felt Kael’s presence behind me and glanced at him, he was staring at me with desire in his eyes. A shiver ran down my spine and my heart fluttered. “Thank you for defending me,” I said to him He took a step towards me, closing whatever little distance there was between us. My breath caught. His presence was so domineering, so sharp, it msde intimate parts of my body scream for his attention. “It's so weird. I can't seem to be able to take my hands off you.” His voice was smooth and velvety as he spoke. “Me too,” I said before I could stop. A small smile appeared on his face, almost undetectable. If I had blinked I would have missed it “Good,” he murmured. “Because I want to kiss you again,” Oh goodness. The Alpha king telling me he wanted me wasn't on my bingo card but here we were. I nodded without a thought. I had been thinking about kissing him all day and now he waved to kiss me? He wasted no time in pulling me closer and kissing me hard. I moaned, my hands rounding his neck. His lips were soft but firm and he tasted of coffee and something else. My body was on furee again as if someone had turned on the heater.. goosebump scattered all over my body… A knock interrupted us and he reluctantly let go of me. Straightening, he made his way to the door and opened it. I couldn't see who it was but I knew it was Dax. I looked away. After a couple of seconds, Kael closed the door and walked back to me. “Stay here, don't leave. We'll talk when I get back.” “Where are you going?” I asked “To have a meeting with the Council.” He said, f*****g my hair behind my ears I nodded, biting my lips. Being around him made me shy and nervous. I could barely keep the butterfly in my stomach at bay. It was ridiculous. I was never a shy woman. I wasn't as boisterous and bold as Eve but I wasn't shy. “Is everything okay?” I asked. “It should be. I've been gone for years, I'm sure they want to confirm my identity, official duties.” “Okay.” “Wait here for me, Do you understand?” “Yes, Alpha,” I said quietly. He sucked in a breath as if my words had done something to him. “I should go,” he said but he didn't move. Just kept staring. I blinked. “Is everything okay?” I was prompted to ask. “Yes,” he said schooling his features into an impassive mask. He smiled and turned his way out. I sat on the bed feeling very out of place and confused. Was this real? Was Dax really demoted from being the Beta? Was I really the Alpha's mate? It was all so…surreal, it almost felt like I was dreaming. I would have laughed if I wasn't panicking. A knock came at the door thirty minutes and I frowned. He was back so soon? With a frown, I made my way to the door and Eve was behind it. “Girl!!” She screamed. She was holding a plate of food I let her in. “I can't believe Alpha demoted his brother for you. How exciting!” “Shhh! You don't want to expose it.” “Expose it? Girl, everyone is talking about it!” “Oh, faithful Goddess!” I held my stomach. I didn't like this at all. “Don’t worry. Everyone is rooting for you. Whatever this is.” “Rooting for me? This isn't a romance book.” “I mean, it's not but we are women and we…” The door suddenly opened and Alpha Kael walked in. “Alpha!” Eve quickly bowed. “Who are you and whu are you here?” He asked. “Oh, I'm Eve, one of the maids.” “She brought me some food to eat,” I quickly intervened. Kael looked between us with a bit of scrutiny then nodded. “Put down the food and leave.” He said. Eve did as he told her and scurried out like a rat trying to escape a cat. “You're back so soon. How was the meeting?” “Great, the meeting was great.” I nodded. He walked back towards the bed and plopped down on his bed. “Can I ask you a question?” I asked. “Of course,” he said, stretching his hand to me. I took it, feeling comfortable in his big hands. He pulled me close. “Tell me what's on your mind.” “When you were talking to your brother about kicking me out… you didn't tell him I was your mate, why?” He stared up at me, a small smile stretching his beautiful lips. I was tempted to forget about my question and kiss him but this was important to me. I didn't bat to be a secret like Dax had made me and ended up dumping me. “I have no reservations about you being my mate. I want you but I don't think you want me as much as I want you.” “That's not true…” “Even if it isn't. I want us to build an organic relationship and not because of the mate bond's desire.” I bit my lips. “Okay,”
