JADE I take Cleo to the kitchen. There’s no sign of Lukas. I had craned my neck and kept peeping at the hallway right outside to arrive at that. My chest feels queasy. I move around, gathering supplies, but the burning sensation in my eyes won’t go away. I picture him marching into the room that had the piano. How he held me against it. The rip. I wince in memory of the pain I felt. There’s a sting in my chest. It’s not stopping. It’s causing my eyes to water. I place a hand over my forehead to gauge my body temperature.
