The Guest

*Orla* "Mum do I really have to be at the fitting?" asked Luca, looking at me pleadingly with his blue eyes. "If you don't want to miss your uncle's alpha ceremony, you'd better put on your shoes quickly. I bet Grandmother is already impatiently waiting for us. I shoved my son toward the door in a hurry - he was only eleven, so what would his puberty be like? When we entered the Packhouse, Kyle, my mom's assistant, was already waiting for us. She tilted her head to the side and said, "Luna Shauna is already waiting for you. Luca and I sighed at the same time and went up the stairs to the second floor where my mother's rooms were located. She and my dad had moved to the floor that normally housed the guests. They had left their floor for the new Alpha and his Luna. On the weekend, the Alpha ceremony would take place in which the old Alpha, my father, would pass his title to my brother Liam, the new Alpha. A traditional alpha ceremony consists of various ceremonies such as the opening ball and the presentation of the titles, and the farewell banquet. Alphas from other packs often attended the ceremonies. Since the whole pack joined in, it was usually a huge party and a lot of them hoped to find their mates there. At 27, I still had not found my mate, much to the displeasure of my mother. She did everything she could to ensure that I was thrown to as many potential candidates as possible. Since I was now getting closer to 30, she had frequently mentioned whether I should perhaps consider a chosen mate. It wasn't that there were no interested guys, but I just wasn't interested in a mate, whether it was my destined mate from the moon goddess or a chosen mate. I had Luca, after all, and we were happy as it was. Being a single parent was difficult enough, I didn't need a partner who would make everything even more difficult. Of course, my mother didn't like my views at all, and she would have rather gotten me married right before Luca was born to avoid the shame of her daughter being a teen mom without a father in the picture. Fortunately, my father had stood by me and had put his foot down. As I slipped into a tight purple dress that didn't match my hair and skin at all, I heard my mother in the next dressing room discussing the details of the Alpha Ceremony with her assistant. As Luna of the Pack, my mother was responsible for most of the organizational things that came up in the Pack. She was very perfectionistic and traditional when it came to events and the Alpha Ceremony had to be perfect. I was definitely not envious of her assistant Kyle. "Is everything ready for the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack? my mother asked, just as I was back in my comfy shorts and the cropped top I had been wearing earlier. A loud growl escaped my throat and I rushed out of the cabin. That surely couldn't be true - how did he come to show up here? Without knocking, I rushed into my father's office, who looked at me rather perplexed. How dare you invite him," I shouted. Darling pub, may I know who this is about," my father said in his most loving voice. This only made me angrier, this monster who wanted to take my son away from me, I shouted. Why is Francesco of the Silver Moon Pack invited to Liam's Alpha Ceremony, I repeated with a dangerous voice. He shrugged his shoulders. I don´t know, darling, your mother was responsible for the invitations. Of course, this looked so like her. Why couldn´t she let me have my peace? My father looked at me with a loving face, darling pub. Maybe it's about time that you face your past. Maybe it will all turn out better than you think. And you know you can always count on us. My mum burst into the office, Orla, you can´t just leave us. We were not done with the fitting. You have to look your best if you want to find your mate. I sent Luca to Liam's apartment. They are playing some nonsense video game. Now come on, we have to find a dress for you. You are the daughter of an Alpha and you need to be dressed accordingly. Without a word, I rushed out of the office. I had to go for a run. This all can't be true. The cruellest Alpha of all will attend the Alpha Ceremony tomorrow and there was no way out for me.
