A guy like Professor Donovan, who's been teaching for years and has a decent reputation, wouldn't go out of his way to defend Eleanor unless he genuinely thought she was innocent.
"Carl, what's your point? I'm the one who got hurt here! She stole from me! Eleanor is the one who copied! Carl, I'm your fiancée, and I was the one she bullied! What you should be doing is standing up for me. I want her to apologize to me before noon tomorrow!"
